Sr. DevOps Platform Engineer

$70 to $80 per hour contract with a conversion salary of $150K to $160K annually
Summary
The Senior Software Engineer (Platform / DevOps) is responsible for designing and building scalable DevOps and cloud platform solutions that improve software delivery, infrastructure automation, and operational reliability. This role partners closely with engineering, QA, operations, and platform teams to establish CI/CD standards, modernize cloud infrastructure, and improve developer productivity across Azure-based environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
- Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform
- Support deployments across Azure and hybrid/on-prem environments
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, application deployments, and environment setup
- Build and enhance monitoring, logging, and observability capabilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, infrastructure, and deployment issues
- Embed security and compliance best practices into DevOps workflows
- Improve automation, reliability, and operational efficiency through tooling enhancements
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define DevOps standards and best practices
- Communicate technical designs, tradeoffs, and operational impacts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Mentor engineers and contribute to platform engineering initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and software engineering experience
- 5 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering , or related software engineering roles
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on coding experience
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using GitHub Actions
- Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles
- Proficiency with scripting and programming languages such as Python, C#, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript
- Experience working with Azure cloud infrastructure and related services
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, GitOps, and modern deployment practices
- Understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability concepts
- Experience integrating DevOps workflows with enterprise platforms such as Azure DevOps, Jira, ServiceNow, or Microsoft 365
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and deliver practical solutions in fast-paced environments
- Experience supporting greenfield or cloud transformation initiatives
- Azure DevOps Engineer or related cloud certifications
- Background in Agile, Lean, or continuous improvement environments
- Familiarity with security best practices within CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud and enterprise-scale environments
- Exposure to platform engineering or developer experience initiatives
- Strong collaboration and mentoring experience across engineering teams
