Certified Welding Inspector (CWI / S1 & S2)
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detailed-oriented Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) holding ICC S1 (Structural Steel and Bolting) and S2 (Structural Welding) certifications to join our Quality Control team. The CWI S1/S2 will be responsible for ensuring that all structural steel fabrication and erection comply with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other applicable codes, project specifications, and safety regulations. This role requires on-site inspection, independent judgment, and thorough documentation of structural steel assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inspection & Testing (S1 & S2 Scope)
- Structural Welding Inspection (S2): Perform visual inspection of welds (pre-, during-, and post-welding) for compliance with AWS D1.1/D1.5 standards.
- Structural Steel/Bolting Inspection (S1): Inspect structural steel erection, bolt tightening (torque/tensioning), and high-strength bolting assemblies to ensure compliance with AISC and RCSC specifications.
- Dimensional Verification: Measure dimensions, materials, and installations for conformance to drawings and specifications.
- NDE Monitoring: Perform visual inspection of non-destructive testing (NDT/NDE) performed by others (MT, PT, UT).
2. Documentation & Reporting
- Produce detailed daily, weekly, and final inspection reports, providing quality metrics.
- Document non-conformance reports (NCR) and track corrective actions to completion.
- Review welder performance qualifications (WPQ) and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
3. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA safety requirements and company-specific safety policies.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and codes.
- Communicate technical findings, defects, and code requirements to contractors, welders, and project management.
Required Qualifications
- Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification.
- Active ICC S1 Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector Certification.
- Active ICC S2 Structural Welding Special Inspector Certification.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in structural steel inspection or related welding inspection roles.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting structural steel plans, shop drawings, and technical specs.
- Proficiency in the use of weld inspection tools (weld gauges, NDT equipment, micrometers, torque wrenches).
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC codes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a, shop, or shipyard environment.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work in tight spaces.
- Frequent exposure to weld gases, sparks, and loud noise levels.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with advanced NDT methods (UT/MT/PT).
- Strong computer skills for digital reporting.
