About Us

At OED, we don’t just move dirt—we build award-winning, luxury outdoor living environments. As a premier leader in custom residential and commercial landscaping, we pride ourselves on precision, elite craftsmanship, and an uncompromised commitment to safety. We are looking for an experienced operator who treats heavy machinery like an extension of themselves and takes pride in flawless finish grading.

Position Summary

Safety-conscious, results-driven Heavy Equipment Operator with 3 years of experience on high-end residential and commercial landscaping projects. Skilled in operating compact excavators, mini track loaders, skid steers, and backhoes to perform precise grading, soil prep, hardscape excavation, and tree transplanting. Proven OSHA safety record, diligent in routine equipment maintenance, and adept at collaborating with installation crews to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate site preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Precision Machine Operation: Maneuver compact excavators, skid steers, track loaders, and backhoes to perform fine grading, hardscape site preparation, trenching for irrigation/utilities, and large-scale soil or material placement.
  • Site & Earthmoving Execution: Execute precise digging and terrain modification according to landscape blueprints, site plans, and elevation benchmarks while protecting surrounding structures, mature trees, and existing utility lines.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Safety: Perform mandatory pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections, track fluid levels and greasing schedules, conduct light preventative maintenance, and secure machinery at the end of shifts.
  • Crew & Site Coordination: Collaborate closely with landscape architects, site foremen, and ground crews to streamline workflow, move bulk materials (dirt, rock, mulch, trees), and maintain clear communication using hand signals or radio protocols.
  • Job Site Hazard Management: Enforce OSHA safety standards, evaluate ground stability and slope risks, verify underground utility mark-outs (811 protocols) before digging, and maintain a clean, safe operating envelope.

Qualifications

  • 3 Years of Verifiable Experience: Specifically operating skid steers, excavators, and hauling equipment in landscape and/or civil construction environments.
  • Finishing Expertise: Proven ability to hit exact finish grades and work carefully around existing structures, utilities, and high-end hardscapes.
  • Dependability: Ability to handle early morning starts, physically demanding outdoor work, and occasional overtime to hit project deadlines.
  • Safety First Mindset: Complete understanding of job site safety, trenching hazards, and equipment limitations.
