A Day in the Life
- Start by reading job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material needs.
- Open CAD, produce parts for mold and fixture maintenance, and, when CAD isn’t available, skillfully duplicate the required parts.
- Dial in machines and fixtures using scales, rules, calipers, micrometers, and thread or plug gauges.
- Track the molding schedule to plan and execute tooling readiness, including insert changes.
- Troubleshoot injection molds and sustain production for each mold in the production area.
- Observe molds in operation to spot tooling issues or machine malfunctions early.
- Measure mold and part dimensions to verify accuracy of machine operation.
- Inspect all incoming molds to confirm they’re in solid operating condition.
- Perform daily inspections of cranes and related equipment.
- Carry out preventative maintenance on tools and molds to reduce downtime.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Minimum one-year certificate from a college or technical school and three years of experience in a machine shop environment required. Note: candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Ability to operate a surface grinder with spin fixture within tight tolerances required.
- Ability to use an overhead crane and a forklift.
- Ability to follow instructions, read a micrometer, and understand CAD drawings.
