Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Instrument and Controls Technician performs assigned projects, procedures or tasks, at a level of independent expertise, involving the installation, testing, repair and maintenance of all types of electronic, computer-based, pneumatic or hydraulic equipment, associated with instrumentation and process control systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Tests or performs technical analysis and subsequently repairs all malfunctions or aberrations, that are encountered in the maintenance, operation or testing of instrumentation and control equipment, and to take the appropriate action to ensure continuity of the systems.
- Performs installations and puts into service instrumentation and control systems equipment.
- Makes sketches, takes notes, draws graphs and completes reports in order to maintain complete and accurate records about the installation, testing, repair and maintenance of equipment. Reports any abnormal or potentially dangerous conditions to the appropriate supervisor in a responsible and timely fashion.
- Provides on-the-job training and guidance of personnel of lesser classifications in order to upgrade their skills.
- Ensures proper utilization, maintenance and security of assigned tools, equipment and work areas.
- Reviews with and provides appropriate input to the Instrument Supervisor Technician or the Instrument Supervisor, any recommendations about practices, procedures, system requirements or improvements in order to facilitate maintenance schedules, short- or long- range plans, or any other efficiencies or cost improvements.
- Acts in an exemplary manner in order to maintain and promote safe practices and procedures, and participates in safety meetings and first-aid classes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Internal Relationships:
- Exchanges information and collaborates on joint projects with power plant personnel.
- Obtains equipment clearances from Operations Personnel.
- Obtains and retires equipment and tools from Storeroom Personnel.
External Relationships:
- Assists in installation or repair, receives training, and exchanges information with Manufacturer Representatives.
