Join our team for a hands-on internship focused on environmental compliance, sustainability, and chemical processes within a large-scale power generation facility. This role is designed for students pursuing degrees in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields who want real-world experience in environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance & Monitoring
- Assist with air emissions, water discharge, and waste management calculations.
- Support sampling and analysis of water, soil, and air quality to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Help maintain and calibrate environmental monitoring equipment.
- Review chemical inventories for environmental acceptability and assist with spill response and remediation efforts.
- Prepare and update environmental reports, including monthly compliance summaries and sustainability metrics.
Sustainability & Process Improvement
- Participate in projects aimed at reducing environmental impact, such as waste minimization and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Contribute to research and recommendations for alternative chemicals and cleaner processes.
- Assist in developing documentation for environmental audits and inspections.
Safety Integration
- Collaborate with safety teams to ensure environmental tasks meet OSHA and plant safety standards.
- Participate in outage activities where environmental oversight is critical.
Work Environment
This position combines office and plant-based tasks. Interns must be able to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, fall protection harness) and work around rotating equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required during outages or emergent situations. Remote work is not available.
Housing
Housing will be provided for students who do not live in the area.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and chemical handling principles preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
- Ability to work safely in a plant environment and adhere to PPE requirements.
