Title: ALCC Urban and Community Forestry Project Coordinator

Starting Salary Range: The starting salary range for this position will be in the $22.93 to $23.62 range, depending on experience, education, and skills relevant to the position. Please note that the indicated starting salary range describes the range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.

Program Summary

Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) is a program of Conservation Legacy (CL). ALCC provides conservation service opportunities for indigenous youth, young adults, and recent-era military veterans in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona and works with other Native American communities and conservation corps across the country to provide similar opportunities. Our vision is to lead our Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being and we do this by empowering individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities, and the environment. ALCC crews are supported from operational bases in Acoma Pueblo, Albuquerque, Zuni Pueblo, Gallup, and Kykotsmovi (Hopi), with an Individual Placement (IP) program that serves the region.

The Urban Community Forestry (UCF) project brings together local resource managers, non-profit organizations, and communities to address environmental and social inequities by bolstering local youth workforce development and employment. The project will involve tree-planting, treating invasive species, and improving access to urban green spaces in the Rio Grande Bosque.

Position Summary

The Urban and Community Forestry Project Coordinator’s (PC) primary responsibilities are to coordinate multiple conservation projects in the greater Albuquerque Metropolitan area, prepare and support field-based crews, coordinate with other Conservation Legacy programs, and lead relationship-building with project partners. The PC will also assist in program outreach and recruitment. The overarching objectives of this position are to support crew safety and overall program quality, and ensure timelines and deliverables are met. The position is grant funded and seasonal.

Outcomes & Functions Of Position

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Attend local outreach events and volunteer opportunities
  • Assist with interviewing, selecting, and onboarding AmeriCorps Members and crew leaders
  • Participate in orientations and basic trainings for incoming participants

Project Coordination and Training

  • Work with colleagues to develop and implement training schedules, including technical trails, chainsaw, herbicide application, medical, leadership, and facilitation skills
  • Work with project partners to coordinate project logistics and technical assistance
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and standing with community and project partners, including tribal government agencies and non-profits
  • Train crew leaders and members on policies, protocols, and safety culture

Field Support

  • Mentor and supervise field personnel
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and support to crews in the field
  • Ensure risk management and program quality expectations and standards are upheld and met
  • Enforce all ALCC and CL Policies and Procedures
  • Coordinate logistics for crews, including renting equipment, monitoring inventory, leading maintenance of program tools, gear, and equipment at location and assisting logistics staff with inventory tracking
  • Contribute photos and narratives to program social media

General Administration

  • Manage multiple databases for recruitment, selection, onboarding, payroll, timesheets, and AmeriCorps information
  • Manage and maintain accurate reporting of all necessary information and complete program reports including field site visits, recruiting notes, and accomplishments
  • Assist ALCC directors and managers with end-of-year reporting, including gathering of project evaluations from partners and other data
  • Work within an established program budget; manage credit cards, receipts, and financial reporting
  • Work closely with administrative staff to ensure completion of paperwork tasks and AmeriCorps requirements to compliance standards
  • Maintain an organized operational base and assist managers to ensure health and safety compliance of workplace

  • Successfully engages, leads and supports a positive work environment for all within the organization and the communities we serve.
  • Leads and/or participates in organizational-wide teams, projects and initiatives that support the work of the Strategic Plans goals.
  • Reports any potential complaints within the organization as identified in the Personnel Policy Manual.
  • Assists or leads other responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1 years’ leadership experience with a youth conservation corps or other professional leadership experience
  • Competency in the outdoors, including camping and outdoor cooking skills.
  • Experienced skill level in all or most of the following: trail construction & maintenance, chainsaw operation & maintenance, hand tool maintenance, fencing, herbicide application, backcountry travel with a strong emphasis placed on multiple years of previous trail construction and maintenance experience.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Insurable Driving Record per Personnel Policies.
  • Must be able to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams or with a variety of populations, including those underrepresented at our organization and those of BIPOC communities.
  • Ability to successfully work in a fluid, changing work environment.

Preferred Qualifications And Experience

  • 1 years of project management experience
  • Familiarity or formal education in forestry or outdoor education
  • Current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification
