Port Laborer- Pallet Breakdown

Connect Staffing is hiring a Port Laborer for a pallet breakdown operation at a port / cargo handling facility in Long Beach, CA. This is a temp position paying $22/hr, Monday through Friday. In this role, you will break down wooden pallets using hammers and pry bars, remove nails and damaged materials, and sort and stack usable lumber in an outdoor yard environment. This is a steady daytime schedule with consistent hours throughout the week.

Pay: $22/hr

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm

Responsibilities

• Break down wooden pallets using hammers and pry bars in an outdoor port yard.
• Remove nails, boards, and damaged materials from palletized freight.
• Sort and stack usable lumber for reuse.
• Dispose of scrap materials and broken pallet debris properly.
• Keep the work area clear of debris to maintain a safe yard environment.
• Follow port safety regulations and supervisor instructions at all times.

Minimum Requirements

• 6 months of general labor experience in a warehouse, port, or outdoor industrial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in an outdoor industrial yard or port environment.
• Comfort working in varying weather conditions for a full 8-hour shift.
• Ability to perform rapid, repetitive physical labor throughout the shift.
• Experience handling lumber, freight, or palletized cargo.
• Familiarity with port safety protocols or cargo handling procedures.
• Ability to use hand tools such as hammers and pry bars safely.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical work for up to 8 hours.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work in tight or confined spaces as required.
• Steel toe boots required (employee-provided); additional PPE provided on site.
• Drug screen required.
• Background check required.
• E-Verify / work authorization required.
