Summary
Our client, a small and dynamic CPA firm, is looking for a Tax Manager to take ownership of client relationships while playing a key role in tax compliance, planning, and firm operations. This is a newly created, hands-on position ideal for someone who enjoys variety — working directly with clients, reviewing and preparing returns, mentoring staff, and contributing to long-term firm growth. You'll manage your own client base, collaborate closely with the partner team, and have exposure to all facets of public accounting, with future leadership or ownership potential for the right candidate.
What You'll Do
- Own a book of business, preparing and reviewing returns across individual, business, and entity types
- Field technical questions on federal and state tax matters, including notices and audit support as they arise
- Advise clients on structuring decisions and the tax angle of bigger business moves they're considering
- Build long-term relationships as clients' go-to contact, not just a once-a-year filer
- Mentor and review work from junior team members, helping build their technical skills
- Weigh in on firm-level priorities — from workflow improvements to new tools to growth strategy
- Balance a mix of hands-on technical work and higher-level client and team leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- CPA license required (CPA-eligible candidates actively pursuing licensure will also be considered)
- 5-7 years of tax experience, including preparing and reviewing both individual and business returns
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax law
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with professional tax software a plus
- Prior experience managing or reviewing staff work preferred
Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
