What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Connect Life Sciences?
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff or Senior Accountant for a six-month contract engagement supporting an R&D Accrual team through a system implementation. This role operates within a high-risk R&D environment and requires strong technical accounting skills, ERP proficiency, and the ability to collaborate across internal and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Interpret R&D contracts and determine appropriate accrual schedules and/or models
- Update clinical site accrual models based on current patient enrollment data and latest site budgets
- Analyze, review, and examine R&D-related invoices and supporting documentation to populate accruals accurately
- Ensure monthly R&D accrual schedule is complete and ready for manager review
- Support month-end and quarter-end close processes including accruals, reporting, and reconciliations
- Prepare complex journal entries on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors to ensure accuracy and accrual completeness
- Support both external quarterly and annual audits
- Ensure compliance with company policies and US GAAP
- Assist with process improvements and system implementations as needed
- Support ad hoc projects as assigned
Required qualifications
Education & experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–5 years of experience in a senior accounting role at a publicly traded company
- Demonstrated career progression and ability to learn in prior roles
Technical skills
- Solid experience in at least 2 ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Intacct, QAD, MAS90, Macola, NetSuite)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Hands-on experience with GL, month-end close, accruals, and reconciliations
Compliance & soft skills
- Experience with SOX 404B compliance requirements
- High attention to detail — this role operates within a high-risk R&D environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across cross-functional teams
