Automotive General Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the dealership’s sales team to meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets through effective coaching, motivation, and performance tracking.
• Develop and implement strategic sales plans focusing on passenger car sales, high-end vehicles, and upselling opportunities to maximize revenue streams.
• Oversee the entire sales pipeline from lead generation through deal closing, ensuring consistent client communication via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
• Cultivate strong customer relationships by providing exceptional service, understanding client needs, and offering tailored automotive financing options.
• Manage inventory control and inventory management processes to ensure optimal stock levels of new and used vehicles while supporting retail math principles for profitability.
• Conduct B2B sales efforts including outside sales activities such as cold calling, outreach to corporate clients, and public speaking engagements to promote dealership offerings.
• Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems supported by technical tools to track leads, follow-ups, and customer interactions efficiently.
• Oversee dealership operations including staff scheduling, inventory management, compliance with automotive industry standards, and maintaining high standards of phone etiquette and communication skills among team members.
• Support the development of sales support initiatives such as upselling techniques, deal negotiation strategies, and closing sales effectively while maintaining excellent customer service standards.

• Proven experience in automotive dealership management or automotive sales leadership with a strong track record of achieving sales targets.
• Extensive knowledge of the automotive industry’s sales processes including passenger car sales, automotive financing options, and inventory control.
• Demonstrated ability in B2B sales strategies such as outside sales efforts, cold calling, negotiation skills, and public speaking engagements.
• Strong organizational skills with proficiency in retail math calculations related to inventory valuation and profit margins.
• Excellent communication skills (bilingual/multilingual abilities are a plus), with a focus on client communication and phone etiquette.
• Experience managing a sales team using CRM software or other CRM systems supported by technical infrastructure for tracking leads and customer interactions.
• Ability to build lasting customer relationships through exceptional customer service skills and effective deal closing techniques.
• Organizational skills necessary for managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced dealership environment; familiarity with automotive financing options is preferred.
