Position Overview

The Assistant Manager helps lead daily retail and meat counter operations at Conger Meat Market's Rochester location. This role supervises and supports team members, ensures a strong customer experience, and steps in for the Store Manager as needed to keep the store running smoothly.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in hospitality, restaurant, or retail leadership, with a proven ability to train, motivate, and hold a team accountable. Prior meat or food production experience is a plus but not required. Training on Conger specific procedures and products will be provided.

Reports to: Store Manager

Location: Rochester, Minnesota. In person.

Status: Full time, hourly. Flexible schedule including weekends.

Pay: From $23.00 per hour

Scope of Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Operations

• Supervise, coach, and support retail and meat counter associates day to day
• Assist with scheduling, onboarding, and training team members on Conger's standards and procedures
• Step in for the Store Manager during absences to ensure continuous, consistent operations
• Help foster a positive, accountable, customer focused team culture

Retail and Customer Experience

• Ensure an exceptional customer experience across the retail floor and meat counter
• Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and basic cooking recommendations
• Oversee POS operations, cash handling, and transaction accuracy
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well merchandised retail environment

Meat Counter and Inventory Support

• Support proper product labeling, identification, and FIFO rotation on all processed items
• Partner with the Store Manager on counter inventory, ordering, and minimizing waste
• Help maintain product availability and freshness in the retail display case

Food Safety and Sanitation

• Follow and help enforce all company food safety procedures, sanitation practices, and hygiene standards
• Maintain clean and sanitary work areas, equipment, and tools at all times
• Ensure food products are handled according to proper temperature control and storage requirements
• Immediately report any food safety, product quality, or sanitation concerns to management
• Support compliance with SQF food safety standards and company food safety policies

Qualifications

• 2 or more years of experience in a hospitality, restaurant, or retail leadership role preferred
• Experience supervising, training, or coaching a team
• Prior experience in a meat processing, butcher, or food production environment is a plus
• Strong communication skills and a customer focused, hands on leadership style
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule including weekends
• Ability to work independently and lead a small team in a fast paced environment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods in refrigerated environments
• Ability to lift and move products up to 50 lbs
• Ability to safely operate meat grinding and cutting equipment

• Customers receive knowledgeable, friendly service that reflects Conger's reputation in a new market
• The store runs smoothly in the Store Manager's absence without gaps in coverage or quality
• Food safety and sanitation standards are followed and enforced without reminder
• Inventory, freshness, and waste are actively managed alongside the Store Manager
