What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean of Students position at CONFLUENCE ACADEMY?
Purpose Statement
The job of Dean of Students is done for the purpose/s of providing assistance to the Principal particularly in
the area of discipline; directing assigned school site programs and services; providing information and
serving as a resource to others; serving as liaison between teacher and students; coordinating and
supporting school activities; and addressing issues, situations, and/or problems that arise on campus or
with enrolled students. Functions may vary depending on school site assignment.
This job reports to Principal
Qualifications:Essential Functions
Attends after-school events as needed (e.g. athletic events, fine arts presentations, etc.) for the
purpose of ensuring an administrative presence.
Communicates with parents, virtually and/or in person, regarding their student's academic and/or
behavioral issues for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving
conflicts to support student's educational performance.
Conducts classroom observations giving post-observation feedback depending on site assignment for
the purpose of ensuring the quality of instruction at assigned school site.
Coordinates the program of student discipline that focuses on both academics and behavior for the
purpose of ensuring compliance and encouraging positive academic and behavioral performance of
students at the school site.
Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. (e.g. student behavior, academic issues, etc.) for the
purpose of ensuring communication between school and home regarding student educational performance
and complying with network and state mandates.
Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes (e.g. academics, behavior, discipline, etc.) for
the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting
students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering
information required to perform functions.
Performs reviews of at-risk students for the purpose of providing needed support/interventions to
enhance opportunity for student educational success.
Prepares data regarding student behavior and discipline for the purpose of documenting activities,
providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Presents information for faculty (e.g. behavioral interventions, disciplinary, etc.) for the
purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring adherence to established
network programs and protocols.
Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community
support for educational goals, establishing relationships with families and community, and
assisting with
issues related to school environment.
Supports principal for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative functions as requested.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties asassigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school site.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills
in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to
satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects; using
pertinent software applications; counseling and mentoring students; critical observation; enforcing
discipline policies; enforcing rules and regulations; investigating problems; and planning
agendas/meetings.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical
information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and
analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies
required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: laws and regulations related
to education; knowledge of community resources; and school safety and security practices.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate,
and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with
others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different
processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical
demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching,
and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40%
walking, 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience:Education (Preferred): Grade level specific work experience is preferred.
Education: Bachelors degree in job-related area.
