Purpose Statement
The job of Principal (Elementary/Middle) is done for the purpose/s of directing overall site operations,
services, and staff at a designated Elementary or Middle School; providing instructional leadership to staff
including curriculum planning, review, and implementation; providing information and serving as the
resource/liaison between the school and community and between the school's staff and the
Board/Resource Office; supervising students and professional staff; creating and maintaining a school
climate and culture that ensures the safety and welfare of students and staff; enforcing established policies
and regulatory requirements; coordinating school activities; and addressing issues, situations, and/or
problems that arise on campus or with enrolled students.
This job reports to Chief Academic Officer
Essential Functions
Collects student achievement data (e.g. standardized tests, end of course exams, etc.) for the purpose
of tracking student academic progress, informing instruction, and reporting to internal and external
stakeholders, Board and state educational entities.
Delegates responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to Assistant Principal and other
personnel for the purpose of managing the workload more efficiently.
Evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance
is maximized.
Facilitates communication between personnel, students, and/or parents/guardians for the purpose of
evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts.
Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or
complying with mandated requirements.
Leads meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, scheduling, site advisory, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating
activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, network, and/or state objectives.
Manages school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, staffing, security, emergency drills,
etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within network guidelines.
Monitors 3rd-party partners who provide services for the school site (e.g. mentoring program, cafeteria
workers, custodial service, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the efficient operation of the school.
Oversees site budgets and expenditures for the purpose of ensuring compliance with budget parameters
established by the network.
Oversees development, implementation, and monitoring of school site plan for the purpose of ensuring
accountability and aligning with collective objectives/goals of network.
Participates in the hiring process for all school site teachers and support staff (e.g. guidance counselors,
social workers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of quality academic instruction and
social/emotional support for students and their families.
Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. trainings, professional development
planning/delivery, Board meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information
required to perform functions.
Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. site marketing and recruitment, student activities, monthly
Board reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or
conveying information for stakeholders and the community.
Presents information (e.g. student achievement results, monthly Board reports, etc.) for the purpose of
communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring transparency in the operation of the school
site.
Provides appropriate quality professional development opportunities for staff for the purpose of
supporting continuous improvement of quality of instruction and instructional delivery for students.
Supervises instructional and non-instructional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance,
providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of school's curriculum.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school site.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical
demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching,
and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 47% sitting, 30% walking, 23% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience:Job related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required
in successful administrative experience at the school or district/network level.
Education: Masters degree in job-related area.
