- Source and purchase CNC machine-shop materials in the correct alloy, specification, temper/condition, size, and stock form, including bar, plate, sheet, tubing, forgings, and specialty metals.
- Obtain and compare supplier quotes based on price, quality, lead time, freight, payment terms, and ability to meet technical and customer requirements.
- Track supplier acknowledgments, open purchase orders, promised dates, and past-due items; expedite or escalate shortages before they affect production.
- Coordinate outside processing such as heat treatment, anodizing, plating, passivation, grinding, coating, and other special processes.
- Identify potential supply risks and work with Planning and Operations to evaluate alternate sources or recovery actions.
Supplier, Quality & Compliance Support
- Maintain accurate approved supplier, pricing, lead-time, and purchasing records in the ERP system.
- Confirm purchase orders include applicable drawings, specifications, revision levels, quality clauses, certifications, and delivery requirements.
- Coordinate with Quality and Receiving to resolve material certification, dimensional, damage, quantity, or documentation discrepancies.
- Support supplier corrective actions, returns, replacements, and follow-up on nonconforming purchased material.
- Assist with supplier performance tracking, including on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost.
Administrative & Cross-Functional Support
- Maintain purchasing files, quote history, order confirmations, packing slips, material certifications, and related supply-chain documentation.
- Reconcile purchase-order, receipt, and invoice discrepancies in coordination with Receiving and Finance.
- Support vendor setup, credit applications, freight coordination, order status reporting, and routine supplier communication.
- Provide accurate material-status and shortage updates during production meetings and communicate schedule risks promptly.
- Assist with inventory reviews, cycle-count follow-up, ERP data cleanup, and continuous improvement of purchasing and material-control processes.
- Perform other purchasing, supply-chain, and operational administrative duties as assigned.
- 3 years of purchasing, buyer, material coordination, or supply-chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting a low-volume, high-mix CNC machine shop, aerospace/defense manufacturer, or similar job-shop operation strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of common machine-shop raw materials, specifications, stock forms, and supplier lead-time considerations.
- Ability to read purchase requirements, bills of material, routings, basic engineering drawings, and material callouts.
- Experience creating and managing purchase orders and expediting suppliers through an ERP/MRP system.
- Strong Excel, Microsoft Office, data-entry, documentation, and recordkeeping skills.
- Strong organization and follow-through with the ability to manage multiple urgent priorities accurately.
