The Senior Accounting Analyst is responsible for delivering advanced financial analysis, ensuring the accuracy of accounting records, supporting month‑end close activities, driving process improvements, and partnering with cross‑functional teams to support financial decision‑making. This role requires strong analytical skills, deep understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Lead and execute components of the monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes.
- Perform variance analyses for income statement and balance sheet accounts and present findings to management.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS (depending on company standards).
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to inquiries.
2. General Ledger & Accounting Operations
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of the general ledger across multiple entities or business units.
- Monitor accruals, prepaids, and reserves to ensure appropriate and timely recognition.
- Review and analyze balance sheet accounts to identify risks, misstatements, or improvement opportunities.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
3. Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Analysis
- Build and update financial models to support forecasting, budgeting, and business decision‑making.
- Conduct cost analysis, margin analysis, and other operational performance reviews.
- Provide insights into financial trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Partner with operations, supply chain, sales, and FP&A to ensure accurate financial data and support cross‑functional initiatives.
- Lead or support the development of the annual operating plan, including revenue, cost, headcount, and capital forecasts.
- Coordinate with functional leaders to gather inputs, validate assumptions, and ensure alignment across business units.
- Prepare and maintain monthly and quarterly forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Build and enhance budgeting models, templates, and planning tools in Excel or planning systems.
- Analyze forecast versus actual performance and prepare explanation packages for management.
4. Compliance, Controls & Governance
- Maintain internal control documentation, where applicable.
- Support tax, treasury, and compliance teams with required data and analysis.
5. Systems & Process Improvement
- Utilize ERP systems to enhance reporting and accounting accuracy.
- Lead or participate in automation initiatives, system upgrades, and process redesign.
- Build dashboards or reporting tools using Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with business leaders to explain accounting results and ensure financial data integrity.
- Support strategic projects, business case development, and operational transformations.
- Act as the accounting liaison to other departments for complex transactions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, MBA preferred.
- 4-7 years of progressive accounting or financial analysis experience.
- 1-2 years experience in manufacturing business preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with ERP systems required.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
