What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant – Compensation, AP & GL position at Confidential?
Senior Accountant – Compensation, AP & GL
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid) | Department: Finance & Accounting | Compensation: $100K–$120K bonus
Be the financial backbone of a fintech VC firm that moves fast.
We're a San Francisco-based fintech VC building something real — and we need an accountant who can keep up. This isn't a "process invoices and disappear" kind of role. You'll be embedded in a collaborative, fast-moving Finance team, owning meaningful work across payroll accounting, AP, and month-end close. You'll have a direct line to the VP of Finance, real visibility into the business, and the satisfaction of knowing the numbers are right because you made sure of it.
If you're a CPA who came up through public accounting, loves being the most reliable person in the room, and wants to trade the grind of client services for deep ownership at one company — keep reading.
What you'll own
Compensation & Payroll Accounting You'll be the person who ensures every dollar of payroll and bonus hits the books correctly. That means preparing payroll journal entries, reconciling liability and benefit accounts (including 401k), running payroll recaps, and helping build out annual bonus memos and compensation budgets. Clean, accurate, on time — every cycle.
Month-End Close & General Ledger You'll drive key pieces of the monthly close: intercompany entries, prepaid and fixed asset schedules, lease amortization under ASC 842, bank and credit card recs, and business tax accruals. You'll also support our UK VAT filings, giving you a taste of international accounting without having to relocate to London.
Accounts Payable & Expense Management Own the AP process end to end — invoice processing, GL coding, approvals, documentation. You'll also track corporate meal and rideshare expenses, airline credits, and event spending, and produce the weekly reports that keep leadership informed on discretionary costs.
Audit & Compliance When audit season rolls around, you're ready. You'll maintain organized, audit-ready workpapers year-round and support external auditors on compensation, payroll, and other assigned areas. No scrambling. No surprises.

- Experience with ERP systems like NetSuite, SAP, or similar
- A bonus if you've touched international accounting or VAT filings before
- The kind of person who closes on time, documents everything, and doesn't need hand-holding
What you get
- $100K–$120K bonus
- Bonus potential — you're building something with us, and you'll share in the upside
- Unlimited PTO — and a team that actually uses it
- Comprehensive health benefits — medical, dental, vision

- A social culture that actually delivers — we're talking holiday parties, professional baseball games, boat cruises, regular happy hours, and company-wide town halls that keep everyone connected and in the loop
