Purchasing Manager
A leading manufacturer of automotive components is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Purchasing Manager with a continuous improvement mindset to join our team.
This is a full-time, on-site position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, responsible for managing the purchasing of materials, supplies, and services required to support a busy automotive components manufacturing operation.
The Purchasing Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the company has the right materials, at the right price, at the right time, while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and supporting production without interruption.
Compensation
Starting Salary: $62,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Job Description
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all purchasing activities for the facility. This position requires strong supplier-management skills, attention to detail, negotiation ability, and a solid understanding of manufacturing inventory requirements.
Responsibilities may include:
- Manage the purchasing of all materials, supplies, and production-related items for the facility.
- Source and evaluate suppliers to obtain the best combination of price, quality, availability, and delivery.
- Research and identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved purchasing efficiencies.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and other purchasing conditions with vendors.
- Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers while identifying and qualifying new sources as needed.
- Purchase a wide range of materials, including paint, plastic materials, chemicals, production supplies, cleaning supplies, packaging materials, and general stock items.
- Monitor inventory levels and establish appropriate purchasing quantities to support production requirements while minimizing excess inventory.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, and Management to anticipate material requirements and prevent production interruptions.
- Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery, pricing, and responsiveness.
- Review purchase requirements, inventory levels, and production demands to determine appropriate order timing and quantities.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing information, supplier information, and purchase orders.
- Identify opportunities to consolidate purchases, reduce waste, improve terms, and lower overall material costs.
- Assist with ongoing supplier negotiations and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Investigate material shortages, delivery issues, quality concerns, and other supplier-related problems and work toward timely resolution.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels for critical production and facility supplies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to purchasing, inventory management, and overall operational efficiency.
- Ensure purchasing activities are conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform other purchasing, inventory, and supply-chain duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous purchasing, procurement, materials management, or supply-chain experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry is strongly preferred.
- Strong negotiation, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to evaluate suppliers and make purchasing decisions based on cost, quality, delivery, and production requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing inventory levels and purchasing materials based on production requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with multiple departments.
- Must be able to work on-site Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Must have reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Must adhere to all company safety and operating procedures.
- Previous experience working with chemicals, plastics, paint, production materials, or other manufacturing supplies is a plus.
