What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Care Director Med Surg position at Confidential?
The Patient Care Director Med Surg has twenty-four-hour accountability for the operational management of designated unit (s). Implicit in this statement is indicated managerial responsibility for the supervision, direction and support of the nursing staff in that unit to meet the needs of the Patient/Unit/Hospital. To deliver nursing care to the adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients utilizing nursing process.
- Improves service delivery and productivity within the Medical/Surgical unit
- Identifies actual or potential issues; collaborates with staff to develop, implement, and reassess solutions
- Encourages and supports shared governance teams
- Communicates organizational philosophy, goals, policies, procedures, and patient satisfaction insights to staff
- Collaborates with clinical leadership and interdisciplinary teams to reduce delays in treatment, admissions, and discharges
- Promotes a customer-focused culture and maintains high standards of service and public relations
- Serves as a resource to the unit, organization, and broader community
- Fosters strong working relationships with leadership, physicians, and other departments
- Ensures appropriate and accurate charging for supplies
- Monitors patient satisfaction metrics and interprets performance reports
- Leads clinical nursing rounds to support positive patient experience outcomes
- Reviews and updates the unit’s Performance Improvement (PI) plan annually
- Maintains accountability for unit-based programs and initiatives
- Promotes staff engagement in performance improvement efforts
- Evaluates performance data with staff and implements corrective action plans to enhance patient care
- Collaborates with quality leadership on identified care and performance issues
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical and/or leadership experience
- Relevant certification preferred
Licensure/Certifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Jersey
- IV certification (as required)
- Current CPR certification
Working Conditions / Hazards
- Exposure to communicable diseases, blood and bodily fluids
- Interaction with acutely ill, disoriented, or combative patients
- Exposure to hazardous materials and high-stress situations
- Potential exposure to radiologic equipment, sharp instruments, and electrical devices
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to lift and assist with patient movement
- Pushing and transporting equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, and stretchers
- Occasional bending, stooping, reaching overhead, and carrying light to moderate equipment
Salary : $150,000 - $165,000
