What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Manager position at Confidential?
The IT Network Manager is a senior, hands-on technical leader responsible for the design, operation, and optimization of a global, enterprise-scale network infrastructure. This role requires a true “player-coach” who leads from the front—setting technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and actively engaging in complex engineering and troubleshooting efforts. The position supports a highly distributed, mission-critical environment and plays a key role in ensuring scalability, resiliency, and security across all regions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Act as the primary technical authority for global network architecture, operations, and performance across multi-region environments
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of network engineers while remaining deeply involved in day-to-day engineering and escalation support
• Design and implement scalable, highly available network architectures across global LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and cloud (AWS/Azure) environments
• Own end-to-end network lifecycle including architecture, configuration standards, deployment, monitoring, and optimization
• Provide hands-on support for advanced troubleshooting, including routing convergence issues, latency, packet loss, and complex failover scenarios
• Drive standardization of network infrastructure across global sites, ensuring consistency, security, and performance
• Lead large-scale global initiatives such as data center migrations, cloud transformations, and network modernization efforts
• Architect and enforce enterprise security frameworks including segmentation, zero-trust principles, VPNs, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and secure access controls
• Partner with global business units, infrastructure teams, and vendors to define and execute network strategy aligned with business objectives
• Manage vendor relationships, evaluate enterprise technologies, and oversee SLAs for global service providers
• Implement and optimize network monitoring, alerting, and automation (SNMP, NetFlow, telemetry, scripting) to proactively manage performance and capacity
• Maintain detailed global network documentation including topology diagrams, standards, configurations, and disaster recovery procedures
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 8–12 years of progressive experience in network engineering within large, enterprise-scale environments
• 3–5 years of experience leading high-performing technical teams
• Proven experience managing and supporting global, multi-site network infrastructures across multiple regions and time zones
Special Requirements:
• Industry certifications such as CCNP or CCIE strongly preferred
• Hands-on experience with cloud networking in AWS and/or Azure (VPCs, VNets, peering, hybrid connectivity)
• Experience with SD-WAN, BGP, OSPF/EIGRP, and modern network design architectures required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Deep hands-on expertise in routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), TCP/IP, QoS, DNS, DHCP, and wireless networking
• Strong experience with enterprise-grade networking platforms (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet) in large-scale environments
• Advanced troubleshooting capabilities across complex, distributed networks including packet-level analysis and traffic engineering
• Strong understanding of network security architecture including segmentation, firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and zero-trust models
• Experience with network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, or similar)
• Proficiency with network monitoring and observability tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of high availability, redundancy models, and disaster recovery planning
• Ability to balance strategic architecture with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, high-impact environment
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence technical and executive stakeholders globally
• Familiarity with ITIL processes including incident, problem, and change management
Additional Desired Characteristics:
• Experience working within Fortune 500 or similarly large, complex, global organizations
• Proven track record of leading global network transformations or large-scale infrastructure programs
• Experience supporting 24/7 global operations with follow-the-sun support models
• Strong vendor negotiation and enterprise procurement experience
• Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on automation, scalability, and operational efficiency
