Company Overview

We are a growing renewable energy company specializing in residential, commercial, and ground-mounted solar installations throughout the Mid Atlantic area. We are seeking an experienced Master Commercial Electrician who is looking to take on a leadership role that combines technical expertise, project management, engineering coordination, and team leadership.

This is not a traditional field electrician position. Approximately 90% of your time will be spent in the office, with occasional field visits to oversee projects, mentor electricians, troubleshoot issues, and ensure installations meet company and industry standards.

Job Summary

We are seeking an energetic and highly skilled Lead Commercial Solar Electrician/ Electrical Operations Manager to oversee our solar installation projects and electrical operations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in commercial electrical systems, construction site management, and team leadership. This role involves managing all aspects of electrical work for solar projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards and electrical codes, while driving operational excellence across our projects.

Position Summary

The Lead Commercial Solar Electrician / Electrical Operations Manager will serve as the company's senior electrical authority. This individual will oversee electrical design coordination, code compliance, engineering review, purchasing assistance, field leadership, and technical training while supporting the successful execution of residential and commercial solar projects.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Master Electrician with extensive commercial experience who enjoys problem-solving, mentoring others, and helping build efficient systems within a growing renewable energy company.

Electrical Leadership

  • Serve as the company's lead electrical expert for commercial and residential solar projects.
  • Lead electricians and electrical crews on commercial projects as needed.
  • Provide technical oversight to ensure projects comply with NEC, local codes, utility requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Support and mentor field electricians while promoting safety and quality workmanship.
  • Oversee and assist one full-time service technician.
  • Conduct site evaluations to assess project feasibility, identify potential hazzards and plan safe execution strategies.
  • Coordinate with project manager to ensure seamless workflow from initial site assessment through commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate documentation or projects with established project management software.

Engineering & Design Coordination (Primary Office Responsibilities)

  • Review residential and commercial solar designs submitted by sales consultants.
  • Coordinate project submissions with third-party engineering firms.
  • Review returned engineering drawings for accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and installation efficiency.
  • Identify design improvements before projects move into construction.
  • Communicate engineering revisions with project management and sales teams.

Commercial Electrical Expertise

Project Management

  • Utilize project management software to coordinate electrical activities.
  • Track engineering deliverables and project milestones.
  • Assist project manager with technical planning.
  • Coordinate with utilities during interconnection and service upgrades.
  • Support permitting and AHJ requirements when necessary.

Procurement & Material Management

Assist in ordering electrical balance-of-system (BOS) components, including:

  • Wire and cable
  • Conduit
  • Disconnects
  • Switchgear
  • Transformers
  • Combiner boxes
  • Breakers
  • Electrical fittings
  • Grounding equipment
  • Other electrical materials

Review product specifications to ensure compatibility with project requirements.

Research & Continuous Improvement

  • Research emerging solar products and electrical technologies.
  • Stay current with NEC code changes.
  • Evaluate new installation methods and wiring practices.
  • Attend manufacturer training sessions.
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain electrical licensing.
  • Recommend improvements to company installation standards and best practices.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead by example.
  • Conduct or participate in regular operations meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, office staff, field crews, utility companies, inspectors, engineers, and customers.
  • Develop installation standards and quality-control procedures.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.

QualificationsRequired

  • Current Master Electrician license (or ability to obtain reciprocity in Pennsylvania).
  • Minimum 10 years of commercial electrical experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Experience leading electricians and supervising commercial projects.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • Experience reviewing electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Preferred

  • Solar installation experience.
  • NABCEP certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with battery storage systems.
  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure.
  • Experience using project management software.
  • Knowledge of utility interconnection processes.
  • Experience working with third-party engineering firms.
