About the Opportunity

A growing multi-site organization is seeking a Corporate EHS & Risk Manager to lead environmental, health, safety, and risk management initiatives across a growing operational footprint.

This is a highly visible, field-oriented leadership role responsible for developing and strengthening safety and risk-management programs across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with operational leaders and field teams, using data to identify risk, implementing practical controls, and holding leaders accountable for measurable improvements.

This position will play a key role in reducing workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, regulatory exposure, and environmental risk while building a consistent safety culture across the organization.

About the Role

The Corporate EHS & Risk Manager will oversee enterprise-level EHS and risk programs, with regular travel to branches and field operations.

The successful candidate will translate risk data into clear priorities, practical solutions, field-level coaching, and measurable accountability. This individual should be equally comfortable reviewing data and reports at the corporate level and walking a jobsite or branch to identify and address safety concerns.

Key Outcomes

  • Reduce recordable injuries through targeted prevention, investigation, and verified corrective action.
  • Reduce vehicle accident exposure by improving safe-driving behaviors and accident follow-up.
  • Improve DOT compliance and reduce violations and repeat defect patterns.
  • Strengthen fleet inspection practices and ensure identified vehicle defects are appropriately addressed.
  • Maintain a field safety observation program and use the data to develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain clear visibility into safety and risk cases, including ownership, corrective actions, deadlines, and closure.
  • Increase safety ownership and accountability among operational leaders and field management.
  • Maintain environmental compliance and readiness related to spills, waste, storage, documentation, and other applicable obligations.

Core Responsibilities

Enterprise Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintain an enterprise EHS risk register and prioritize the organization's highest-frequency and highest-severity exposures.
  • Develop and maintain practical safety policies, standards, training programs, audit schedules, communications, and branch safety processes.
  • Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators to identify trends and prioritize resources.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of safety controls and make adjustments when risk is not being adequately reduced.
  • Partner with operational leadership to integrate safety expectations into daily business practices.

Injury Prevention, Investigation & Case Management

  • Partner with operations and field management to effectively manage injury, accident, DOT, and environmental cases.
  • Maintain accurate and current information related to injuries, first aid incidents, near misses, work status, investigations, corrective actions, ownership, and due dates.
  • Lead or quality-check incident investigations and identify immediate, contributing, and root causes.
  • Develop, assign, and monitor corrective-action plans.
  • Escalate overdue corrective actions and verify that completed actions have effectively addressed the underlying risk.
  • Coordinate with HR, medical providers, insurance carriers, brokers, and other external partners as appropriate.
  • Identify recurring incidents and develop systemic solutions to prevent recurrence.

Fleet, DOT & Telematics

  • Utilize fleet telematics, vehicle inspection, maintenance, accident, and roadside inspection data to identify areas of risk.
  • Partner with operations and fleet teams to improve driver behavior, vehicle readiness, defect resolution, and DOT compliance.
  • Review material vehicle accidents and DOT events to ensure timely investigation, corrective action, and closure.
  • Monitor trends and develop targeted initiatives to reduce preventable accidents and compliance issues.

Field Assurance & Field Safety

  • Maintain a visible presence at branches and jobsites, focusing on areas such as loading, unloading, material handling, vehicle movement, securement, and end-of-day operations.
  • Develop and maintain an effective field-based safety program focused on identifying and addressing leading indicators of injury risk.
  • Lead field-based safety training, observation quality, completion, trend analysis, coaching, and follow-up.
  • Translate safety observations and trends into actionable mitigation plans.
  • Establish accountable owners, deadlines, and effectiveness checks for corrective actions.
  • Coach employees and managers in the field and address recurring behaviors or conditions through systemic improvements.

Environmental & Compliance Readiness

  • Maintain a practical environmental program covering spill prevention and response, waste handling, material storage, and required documentation.
  • Ensure required environmental plans, records, training, and corrective actions remain current and audit-ready.
  • Monitor regulatory requirements and communicate material compliance risks to leadership.
  • Escalate significant regulatory, environmental, customer, or insurance-related risks as appropriate.

Manager Accountability & Executive Reporting

  • Establish clear safety and risk expectations for operational leadership.
  • Develop and maintain transparent branch-level safety scorecards and performance metrics.
  • Follow up on non-compliance and establish clear ownership and deadlines for corrective actions.
  • Escalate repeated or significant compliance issues to senior leadership.
  • Prepare concise executive-level reporting that highlights key exposures, trends, corrective actions, and measurable outcomes.
  • Distinguish between activity-based metrics and actual risk-reduction results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Operations, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible EHS, safety, or risk-management experience.
