Job Summary
A well-established and growing construction company based in southern WV is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who can balance day-to-day financial management with strategic planning and process improvement.
The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and provide financial insight to executive leadership.
Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and applicable federal and state reporting requirements.
- Coordinate annual audits and work directly with external auditors, banks, and tax professionals.
- Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Oversee treasury functions, banking relationships, and debt management.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support executive leadership with financial modeling, strategic planning, and business analysis.
- Assist with ERP and accounting system optimization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA or CMA preferred.
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Experience managing payroll and multi-entity accounting is preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with operational leadership.
Preferred Experience
- Construction, mining, industrial, manufacturing, or project-based accounting experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with job costing, equipment accounting, or multiple operating entities is a plus.
