Position Summary
The Estimator supports the development and execution of cost estimates for industrial concrete construction projects. Working under the direction of the Chief Estimator, this role contributes to the preparation of accurate, competitive, and well-informed bids. The Estimator collaborates closely with operations, sales, and leadership to evaluate project scope, analyze costs, and align estimates with client requirements and company objectives.
This position plays a key role in upholding company standards by ensuring estimates reflect safety, quality, and operational excellence, while reinforcing the organization’s vision, values, and culture throughout the preconstruction process.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of detailed cost estimates for industrial concrete projects, including foundations, structural concrete, slabs, paving, and specialty applications such as expansive cement systems.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs by reviewing blueprints, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Assist in evaluating labor productivity, material quantities, equipment needs, and project timelines to develop accurate pricing.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Estimator and operations teams to assess constructability, site conditions, and potential project risks.
  • Contribute to the preparation of bid packages, cost reports, and internal presentations for leadership review.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, including cost histories, unit pricing, and production metrics.
  • Assist in tracking and analyzing variances between estimated and actual project costs to improve future estimates.
  • Ensure all estimates adhere to company safety standards, quality expectations, and operational capabilities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within estimating and preconstruction processes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or construction engineering technology is a plus.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in concrete, industrial, or heavy civil sectors.
  • A comprehensive understanding of concrete construction methods, materials, and production processes.
  • Ability to accurately interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Possession of strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in the preparation of cost reports, estimates, and supporting bid proposals.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • A high level of attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer
  • Ability to walk active construction sites, including uneven terrain and industrial conditions, as needed
