What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compliance Consultant position at Confidential?
About the Role
This is a contract engagement for a hands-on Sardine expert to lead a first-time implementation of the Sardine platform. You will be the primary driver of configuration, rule-building, and best practice establishment across fraud prevention and compliance. A successful candidate will have successfully completed similar implementations and will have deep familiarity with Account Funding Transaction (AFT) risk and will index heavily toward fraud expertise, with a solid working knowledge of compliance requirements.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end implementation of the Sardine platform, including API integration, environment setup, and go-live readiness
- Design and configure the rules engine, establishing a foundational ruleset tuned to specific payment flows.
- Build and document AFT-specific fraud rules and scoring logic, including controls around first-party fraud, account takeover (ATO), synthetic identity, and money mule activity
- Leverage Sardine's device intelligence, behavioral biometrics, and network signals to reduce false positives while maintaining strong fraud catch rates
- Establish best practices for ACH return rate monitoring, NSF pattern detection, and velocity controls on account funding events
- Define escalation and step-up authentication workflows (e.g., triggering enhanced due diligence for high-risk user segments)
- Advise on Sardine's compliance modules — including KYC/KYB, transaction monitoring, SAR case management, and sanctions/PEP screening — to ensure alignment with BSA/AML obligations relevant to the program
- Collaborate with fraud, compliance, and engineering teams to document rule rationale, thresholds, and expected outcomes
- Train internal stakeholders on the Sardine dashboard, alert queues, and case management workflows
- Produce implementation documentation and a fraud operations playbook for the team to own post-launch
What You Bring
- Demonstrated experience implementing Sardine — at least one prior full implementation at a fintech, payments company, bank, or prepaid program manager; you have configured the rules engine, launched the platform, and seen it into production
- Deep expertise in Account Funding Transactions (AFTs) — you understand the specific fraud patterns that emerge at the account funding layer, including ACH pull fraud, card-funded wallet abuse, and return rate manipulation
- Fraud-first mindset — the majority of your career has been spent in fraud prevention, not compliance; you think like a fraudster and build rules accordingly
- Working knowledge of compliance — you understand BSA/AML frameworks, SAR filing obligations, OFAC screening, and how fraud and compliance functions intersect within Sardine's platform
- Familiarity with the Sardine rules engine, ML scoring models, and the SardineX consortium data signals
- Experience in cross-border payments is strongly preferred
- Ability to communicate rule logic, risk thresholds, and implementation decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong documentation skills — you leave teams better equipped than when you found them
Nice to Have
- Prior experience at a company using Visa Direct, Mastercard Send, or similar real-time disbursement rails
- Experience working with sponsor bank compliance requirements in a fintech program management structure
