What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Confidential?
Assistant Controller
A privately held Dallas real estate group is hiring an Assistant Controller. The company builds and renovates multifamily, manages a large apartment portfolio, and holds real estate investments, with accounting for all three run in-house on Sage Intacct.
This is a confidential search. The employer will be identified during the interview process.
The role
You will own the corporate books for three related companies: a general contractor, an investment and development entity, and the management company. A team of accountants handles the day-to-day transaction work. You own the output.
The center of gravity is construction accounting. Work in progress, percentage-of-completion revenue, and job cost are the technical core of the job, and they are the first thing we will look at on your resume. The corporate and investment books sit alongside that work.
The Sage Intacct environment is still being built out on the construction side. You will run the close on it and improve it at the same time.
This is an in-office role in Dallas. No travel.
What you will own
Monthly close through financial statements across three entities. WIP and percentage-of-completion revenue. Job cost and margin by project. Reporting to construction leadership and ownership. Cash management. AP and AR, accruals, collections, retainage. Owner billings, pay applications, lender draw coordination. Subcontract compliance. Supervision and quality-control review of the accounting team. The construction side of Sage Intacct.
What you need
Construction accounting as your primary background, hands-on WIP and percentage-of-completion ownership, Sage Intacct, full-cycle close, corporate-entity bookkeeping beyond construction, supervision of accounting staff, AP/AR and cash, advanced Excel, real working use of AI on your own work, and the willingness to press a project manager who says his job is fine.
Helpful, not required: lender and AIA draws, Procore, CPA, multifamily, Timberscan.
