Core Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Culture
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all personnel matters, ensuring a fair and consistent application of company policies.
- Lead conflict resolution and internal investigations, balancing legal compliance with a focus on maintaining a positive, high-performance culture.
- Develop and implement initiatives to improve employee engagement and retention across office and field staff.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure strict adherence to federal, state (California-specific), and local employment laws, including Wage and Hour, EEOC, and FMLA/CFRA.
- Oversee and audit personnel files, I-9 compliance, and safety training documentation.
- Partner with Safety/Risk Management teams to handle Workers’ Compensation claims and ensure OSHA compliance.
Full-Lifecycle Talent Acquisition
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process for diverse roles, including Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, and administrative staff.
- Enhance onboarding programs to ensure new hires are integrated effectively into the company’s safety protocols and culture.
Total Rewards & Administration
- Oversee benefits administration, including annual renewals, open enrollment, and daily troubleshooting.
- Manage the performance review cycle, providing coaching to managers on delivering constructive feedback and setting KPIs.
- Coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate processing of complex construction payroll variables (e.g., prevailing wage, union vs. non-union considerations).
Candidate Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of HR experience, with at least 3 years in a management capacity.
- Industry Knowledge: Direct experience in the Construction or Engineering sectors is highly preferred. Familiarity with project-based workforces is a significant plus.
- California Expertise: Deep understanding of California Labor Law is mandatory.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in HRIS platforms and data-driven reporting (e.g., tracking "Time to Fill" or turnover metrics).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP certification is preferred.
