Position Summary
The General Superintendent is the senior field executive responsible for leading large, complex electrical construction projects, typically ground-up in nature. This role provides overall operational leadership for field execution, safety performance, labor strategy, and technical oversight across multiple project teams and supervisory layers. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring strong leadership presence, strategic judgment, and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive-level leadership for field operations, ensuring projects are staffed, executed, and delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational standards, schedules, and budgets.
- Lead, mentor, and develop superintendents and field leadership, setting clear expectations for performance, accountability, and professional growth while fostering a strong safety culture.
- Serve as the senior technical authority in the field, supporting complex construction sequencing, startup activities, and resolution of critical technical or operational challenges.
- Drive project planning and execution, including participation in conceptual development, scheduling, labor forecasting, cost tracking, and quality control programs.
- Ensure accurate and timely labor, cost, and performance reporting while proactively identifying and mitigating risks related to safety, schedule, quality, and customer impact.
- Partner closely with safety leadership to implement safety programs, lead incident investigations, and champion Operational Risk Management initiatives that reduce incidents and increase employee engagement.
- Authorize and oversee workforce decisions, including hiring, staffing adjustments, performance management, coaching, and corrective actions aligned with operational needs.
- Maintain strong relationships with customers, general contractors, owners, and internal stakeholders through effective communication, diplomacy, and conflict resolution.
- Oversee procurement and coordination of materials and resources to support uninterrupted project execution.
- Support the development and delivery of supervisory and technical training, including Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) training as applicable.
- Travel as required, typically less than 25%, depending on project needs.
- Perform additional duties as necessary to support projects, operations, and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced education or technical training strongly preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive construction labor and field leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Leadership Capabilities
- Deep expertise in electrical construction methods, systems, and technologies, with working knowledge of mechanical, interiors, controls, and technology scopes.
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements; OSHA 30 certification required or obtained within six months of hire.
- Proven ability to lead large, diverse field teams and multiple supervisory layers in fast-paced, high-risk environments.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team-development skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication, customer-facing, and negotiation abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate issues, resolve complex problems, and drive continuous improvement.
- Strong scheduling, forecasting, and organizational capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn project and workforce management systems.
- Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) skills preferred.
- Employment contingent upon meeting all jobsite access and client requirements with no outstanding restrictions.
