Controller

Confidential PE-Backed Manufacturer | Tulsa, Oklahoma

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma (On-site — this is not a remote role)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting function for a growing, private-equity-backed manufacturer in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Company operates in a manufacturing environment where strong financial controls, accurate cost accounting, disciplined working-capital management, and timely reporting are critical to the Company's success. The successful candidate will own the monthly close, financial reporting, manufacturing and cost accounting, cash flow reporting, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls, and compliance reporting.

Because the Company is backed by private equity and has bank debt, the Controller will also be responsible for producing timely, accurate, and well-supported reporting for the Company's private equity sponsor, lenders, senior management, and Board.

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with practical manufacturing experience and the ability to operate effectively in a small, entrepreneurial organization, and is comfortable managing a small accounting team directly.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial reporting packages for senior management, the private equity sponsor, lenders, and Board-level reporting as required.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, reserves, and other significant accounting activities.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger.
  • Ensure accounting policies and practices are consistent with U.S. GAAP.
  • Coordinate the annual financial statement audit and serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors.
  • Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for significant accounting balances and transactions.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

  • Own the Company's manufacturing and cost accounting processes.
  • Manage accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, and other inventory.
  • Analyze material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, scrap, yield, and other manufacturing KPIs.
  • Partner with plant and operations leadership to understand the financial impact of operational performance.
  • Support physical inventory processes and ensure accurate inventory valuation.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and develop the Company's accounting staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact on financial matters for ownership, plant leadership, and outside advisors.

Private Equity & Lender Reporting

  • Prepare recurring financial reporting required by the Company's private equity sponsor.
  • Prepare lender reporting and support compliance with financial covenants and other borrowing requirements.
  • Monitor and report key leverage, liquidity, and other financial metrics as applicable.
  • Ensure all sponsor and lender reporting is accurate, timely, and fully supported.
  • Support Board reporting and presentations.
  • Respond effectively to detailed financial and operational questions from investors, lenders, auditors, and senior management.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

  • Prepare and maintain short-term and rolling cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor daily and weekly cash requirements and liquidity.
  • Partner with management to improve accounts receivable collections, inventory levels, accounts payable, and overall working capital.
  • Monitor cash conversion and identify opportunities to improve liquidity.
  • Support banking relationships and borrowing-base processes as applicable.
  • Provide management with clear visibility into cash flow and working-capital trends.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with the CEO and operating leaders.
  • Prepare rolling forecasts and analyze actual performance versus budget and forecast.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful financial and operational KPIs.
  • Provide analysis explaining significant changes in revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, working capital, and cash flow.
  • Support pricing, capital expenditures, operational improvement initiatives, and other strategic decisions with financial analysis.
  • Translate financial results into actionable recommendations for management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience improving accounting processes, controls, or ERP systems.
  • Experience supporting financial statement audits.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
  • Experience in a private-equity-backed or leveraged company with equity sponsor reporting.
  • Experience with lender reporting and financial covenant compliance.
  • Significant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, inventory, and manufacturing cost accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience owning a monthly close, preparing financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and working-capital management.
  • Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff.

Preferred

  • Experience in an industrial, metals, tubing, steel, or other process/manufacturing environment.
  • CPA designation.

Compensation & Benefits
