POSITION:              Facilities Technician

SALARY:                $20.99 - $25.57, per hour DOE

REPORTS TO:       Facilities Services Manager

LOCATION:             Information Technology, Nespelem, WA 

 

Basic Functions:      This is a Non-Exempt position. Installs and maintains communication distribution systems and/or other signals. These systems comprise the physical architecture that supports voice, video, and data transmission within industrial, commercial and institutional complexes. The Cable Services Technician is a staff position serving in a technical-level capacity to Tribal departments and services and to participating agencies using Tribal systems.  This position requires some of local and wide-area networks and cabling infrastructure.  This position also requires the ability to integrate various equipment and provide sufficient experience for current and anticipated bandwidth needs. Under general direction the IT Facilities Manager must promote the use of IT Telecommunications industry standards; Telecommunications Industry Association  (TIA), Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) and Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) and follow the National Electrical Code (NEC) for voice and data cabling installations by studying scopes of work, blueprint plans (including symbols used) and technical specifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

  • Requires a Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.  Construction /laborer experience preferred.

  • Requires a valid Drivers’ License and be eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires the ability to complete elevated work with extended reach. 

  • Requires the ability to read and comprehend technical and training manuals, as well as handouts.

  • Requires the ability to learn and adapt to the ongoing changes of the organization.

  • Requires the ability to clearly communicate goals and priorities of the organization as they relates to technical issues.

  • Requires the ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of technical problem solving skills.

  • Requires the ability to establish and meet deadlines. Requires the ability to perform analysis on various types of system and equipment issues.

  • Requires the ability to utilize computers, laptops, iPads, iPhones, Network Analyzers, Conversion cables, Copper and Fiber test equipment.

  • Requires the ability to be a positive influence on team building.  Requires the ability to succeed as a team player in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Tribal staff and the general public. 

  • Requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Requires the ability to function indoors in an office environment and outdoors engaged in work of a moderately active nature.  

  • Requires the ability to maintain cardio-pulmonary fitness to engage in moderate physical activity.  

  • Requires the ability to complete elevated work with extended reach.

  • Requires the ability to occasionally lifting/carrying (up to 50 lbs) and carry items including up a flight of stairs.

  • Requires the ability to distinguish between shades of color.

  • Requires visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment.

  • Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods of times as required by the position.

  • Requires the ability to work in dust and dirty areas.

  • Requires the ability to drive and work in adverse weather conditions.

  • Requires the ability to work with heights during aerial projects and climbing towers.  

  • Requires the ability to climb and use ladders safely.  Requires the ability to work in confined spaces.

  • Requires ambulatory ability to move to different work locations and to bend, stoop, climb, and reach to perform inspections.

  • Requires arm, hand, finger dexterity to demonstrate use or operate common tools used in construction and maintenance, and use a computer keyboard and other office equipment.  

  • Requires the ability to function with temperature variations.  

  • Requires visual acuity to observe work sites, read written materials, blueprints, plans and schematics.  

  • Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone, including the ability to project voice in noisy work settings.

  • Requires the ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays.  

  • Requires the ability to drive and work in adverse weather conditions.  

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to high level noise, fumes, airborne particles, septic conditions, temperature variations, dangerous equipment, and toxic and caustic chemicals.  

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

 

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

 

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.  In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.  If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
