Clinical & Corrections Registered Nurse

Job Overview

The Clinical & Correctional Registered Nurse provides direct patient care services in correctional, outpatient clinical, and other assigned settings. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of effective nursing services while maintaining compliance with applicable standards of practice, policies, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inmate health screenings within 14 days of booking. Attend Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) meetings with the Medical Director and Jail Manager.
• Provide medication administration and pass training to correctional staff.
• Respond to inmate medical requests via HomeWAV communication system.
• Respond promptly to all calls regarding inmate medical needs.
• Participate in the delivery of general clinical nursing services, including emergent and urgent care as needed.
• Support effective patient flow through comprehensive assessment, treatment, care, coordination, and patient discharge.
• Practice nursing in accordance with current evidence-based standards and applicable nursing regulations.
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements, accreditation standards and customer service expectations related to nursing practice.
• Assist in maintaining an organized, cost-effective medical supply inventory.
• Provide nursing services in the Wellness Center and at other assigned locations, including the Tribal Jail, Early Learning, Elders Center, and home visits.
• Provide patient education on health conditions, medications, treatments, and preventative care.
• Participate in community outreach and health promotion activities.
• Perform clinical procedures including: IV starts, medication administration via intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SQ), and intradermal injection (ID) injection, Electrocardiograms (EKGs), basic diagnostic x-ray imaging, and laboratory services.
• Provide telephone and in-person triage services.
• Participate in Safety and Infection Control initiatives.
• Maintain the Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) manual and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Collaborate with providers as an active member of the Primary Care Provider Team.
• Process patient referrals, communicating with outside specialty providers, and ensure continuity of care.
• Coordinate services with laboratory, radiology, and referral departments.

Skills

• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in many units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and explain graphs and charts.
• Computer Skills: Ability to use PC programs such as Word and Excel efficiently with minimal errors.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data , establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills. Must have the capacity to integrate diverse objectives with a high level of attention to detail.
• Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret written materials. Ability to effectively present information to individuals and to groups. Effective oral and written communication skills. The ability to read, analyze and interpret procedures and government regulations. The ability to effectively present information and be persuasive one-on-one as well as in a group setting.
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to maintain favorable public relations. Enjoys working with people. Must be culturally sensitive and have prior experience working with Native Americans on personal and financial issues. Skills in discussion facilitation and problem solving.
• Job Knowledge: Demonstrates thorough knowledge of general nursing principles, practices and standards of patient care, as well as the scientific principles and specialized techniques applied in professional nursing practice. Possess a strong understanding of medications, treatments and safe administration practices. along with knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Demonstrates the ability to assess patient needs, apply critical thinking, and collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement appropriate plans of care. Maintains composure and sound clinical judgment in stressful or emergency situations, while ensuring accurate documentation, record maintenance, and report preparation. Communicates effectively with patients, families, healthcare providers, and community partners, demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Pay: $54.26 - $89.52 per hour
