We are looking for a hands-on Production Manager to join a well-established, family-owned engineering and manufacturing company that produces precision instrumentation for industrial, aerospace, and medical device applications.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-mix, low-volume environment and is comfortable spending most of their time on the production floor. The right candidate will lead by example, drive daily execution, and help reduce backlog while improving on-time delivery. You will work closely with leadership and play a key role in strengthening team performance and production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily production activities on the shop floor to ensure schedules and priorities are met
- Maintain a strong hands-on presence, supporting teams and resolving issues in real time
- Manage production backlog and drive improvements in on-time delivery and lead times
- Coordinate work orders, scheduling, and capacity planning in a high-mix, low-volume environment
- Partner with leads to balance workloads and improve overall productivity
- Identify and address bottlenecks to improve workflow and throughput
- Ensure all jobs are accurately tracked and updated within the ERP system
- Work cross-functionally with engineering and quality to meet specifications and standards (ISO9001/AS9100)
- Lead, coach, and develop production staff to build accountability and performance
- Coordinate staffing needs, including working with staffing agencies and temporary labor
- Promote a safe, organized, and efficient production environment
- Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and reduce delays
Qualifications:
- 5–8 years of experience in a production or manufacturing leadership role
- Hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, machining, or similar manufacturing environments
- Experience working in high-mix, low-volume production settings
- Working knowledge of ISO9001, AS9100, or similar quality systems
- Experience with production scheduling, backlog management, and capacity planning
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems for production tracking and planning
- Proven ability to lead teams on the production floor (not just from an office)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
- Experience working with staffing agencies and managing temporary labor is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field is a plus, not required.
