Adult Education—Lead Electrician Instructor

  POSITION PURPOSE: The Electrician Instructor will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that align with curriculum standards, guiding students in acquiring technical skills in electrical systems, and providing hands-on training in wiring, safety practices, and equipment usage. Additional responsibilities include classroom management, evaluating student progress, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and educational guidelines. The instructor will work closely with school staff to ensure students are prepared for industry certifications and employment readiness.  Furthermore, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in spearheading our new Electrician Trainee (ET) program, contributing directly to comprehensive curriculum design and the physical layout and development of our new training facility. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS):
  • Teaches skills, knowledge, and a working understanding of the electrical curriculum designated by Conejo Valley Unified School District, meeting California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) standards.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy, focusing on electrical theory (Ohm’s Law, AC/DC calculations) and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Electrical Instruction: Leads the program using a hands-on, project-based approach to teach technical skills like conduit bending, wire pulling, and panel wiring, all while maintaining a strict focus on workplace safety protocols.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with varying abilities, covering residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
  • Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools (e.g., multimeters, power tools, diagnostic instruments); works with office staff to order necessary supplies.
  • Consults on the design and layout of the new electrical workshop and classroom space to ensure it meets safety codes and industry standards.
  • Provides clear safety and behavioral expectations aligned with OSHA regulations; actively monitors student performance in the lab to ensure a secure and compliant training environment.
  • Monitoring and Assessment: Conducts frequent technical assessments to measure student learning and proficiency; provides targeted feedback while maintaining detailed records of attendance, competency progress, and state-required performance metrics.
  • Self-Reflective Practice: Regularly analyzes instructional methods and student performance to identify opportunities for improvement, with a specific focus on refining modules that prepare students for OSHA-10 and key industry certifications
  • Curriculum and Industry Alignment: Collaborates with the Adult School leadership team and Industry Advisory Committee to ensure that curriculum and instruction remain strictly aligned with evolving industry rules, codes, and local workforce demands.
  • Communicate with Industry Partners to develop professional relationships centered on student learning while establishing formal connections with local contractors and unions to secure student internships and externships.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • During periods of critical shortage or other emergency situations, shall temporarily perform any duties as directed within the authorization of any credentials held.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of journey-level experience in residential and commercial electrical work.
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) with 7 years of verifiable electrical trade experience; OR an Associate degree with 5 years of experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree (preferred) with 5 years of experience.
  • Candidate must possess, or be eligible to apply for, a State CTE Teaching Credential. (The district will provide support for a California Designated Subject Credential if not already held)
  • Preference for candidates with recent industry involvement and experience teaching diverse adult populations.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to conduct a cognitively challenging instructional program in electrical science, including National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Title 24 energy standards.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs and varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Ability to cooperate with the school faculty and administration in the development of a coherent program of instruction.
  • Thorough knowledge of content and pedagogy necessary for effective instruction; enthusiasm for mentoring the next generation of electricians.
  • Ability to properly use and care for materials, including conduit bending stations, motor control labs, and sensitive diagnostic testing equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear, concise instructions, using academic and trade language, and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Poise, tact, and good judgment, and a commitment to the safety and education of all students.
