SCREENING PROCESS

The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of a(n): evaluation of education and employment history as it relates to the established minimum entrance qualifications, submission of required documents, including resume/cover letter, if applicable, and responses to supplemental questions, if applicable. The stated qualifications for the position represent only the minimum requirements and do not guarantee qualification for examination or placement on an eligibility list.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination may consist of any combination of a(n): training and experience (T&E) evaluation, written/performance assessment(s), structured oral panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. All parts of the examination process are job related. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on an eligibility list.

DISABILITY ACCOMMODATION

Requests for reasonable accommodations for the testing process must be made no less than two (2) days prior to the examination. Requests must be signed by your medical doctor, school psychologist, or learning consultant as appropriate and must be on provider letterhead and contain an actual signature.

EXAM PROTESTS

Protest of any part of the exam process must be in writing and submitted to the Director, Classified Human Resources no later than five (5) working days from the date you participated in the exam. Any protest must include rationale to support the protest and shall include supporting documentation or references. Protests must be based on illegal discrimination, abuse of discretion, or procedure/process error. Protests should NOT be based on receiving unexpected results. We cannot be responsible for lost mail, misdirected mail, or failure of mail to be delivered after it has been entrusted to the U.S. Postal Service.

ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who are successful in all screening and testing stages will be placed on an eligibility list. The eligibility list created from this recruitment will expire after six (6) months, and may possibly be extended for one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one year or expire sooner than one year. Eligibility lists may be merged, in which case candidate ranks may change.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates on the eligibility list will be called in rank order to participate in final selection interviews with the hiring manager until three ranks of candidates have accepted the invitation to interview. Ranks may include ties so more than three candidates may be called to interview for one vacancy. Please note that candidates will be removed from the eligibility list for declining the invitation to interview more than two (2) times, and immediately after declining an offer of employment.

OFFERS OF EMPLOYMENT

Official offers of employment are ONLY made by the Conejo Valley Unified School District Human Resources Department designee. Offers are subject to satisfactory completion of ALL the pre-employment processing including: successful completion of a physical examination, if applicable, tuberculosis examination, CA DOJ and FBI livescan/background clearance , and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

ADVANCED STEP PLACEMENT

All new regular classified employees shall be paid in accordance with the salary range established for the class to which assigned. Initial placement will normally be the first step of the salary range. However, a new employee may receive advanced step placement with an approval from Human Resources. Requests for advanced step must be submitted in writing to the Human Resources office before the employee's first day of work. Approval will be based on the following criteria:

A) Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class.

B) Additional education at the college level when related to the position, beyond the established educational requirements for entry into the class.

C) Evidence of currently receiving a salary greater than the first step of the salary for the classification.




BASIC FUNCTION: Under the general direction and supervision of the Director, Technology Services and an assigned school site Principal, install, configure, troubleshoot, and service networked microcomputer workstations, related peripheral equipment, and software used in administrative and instructional environments.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry level class in the Technology Services series, distinguished by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties in the provision of computer support services and the focus on site desktop and computer lab hardware and software. On-the-job training is provided in order to enable incumbents to carry-out a narrow range of technical duties independently, with limited need for supervision and direction. As experience is gained, incumbents may perform a wider range of installation and service requests and problem resolution assignments. The position assists and trains users in the proper operations of computer systems and various software packages, and serves as a liaison between the school sites and the District Technology Services Department. Technology Services job classes assigned to the District Office are primarily responsible for installation, maintenance and administration of District-wide infrastructure and applications.
 
Install, configure, and maintain personal computers, printers, hardware, devices and other peripheral equipment; establish and configure connectivity of computer and related devices to the District-wide network, update existing security software on networks and workstations and test for potential system viruses and security problems.

Initiate troubleshooting to resolve network hardware and operations problems, including but not limited to connectivity, internet access, electronic mail and file servers; refer more complex problems to Technology Services staff and/or vendors for resolution.
 
Implement protocols and procedural controls for operation of the network systems; set up student and staff accounts onto local networks.
 
Perform various technical computer and peripheral repair duties that include, but are not limited to diagnosing failures and isolating faulty parts, repairing or replacing parts, and verifying and testing for correct operations.
 
Install and configure standard administrative software in accordance with established criteria, and authorized instructional and educational software; test software to ensure compatibility with the current operating environment and equipment capability; configures software to communicate with peripherals computer equipment.
 
Provide technical assistance to teachers, staff, and students on using computers and software programs including remote access and on the proper use of peripheral electronic equipment used to enhance presentations and viewing.
 
Confer with site users and District Technology Services staff to determine school site's software and hardware requirements and desired output, resolve problems, and provide support and assistance.

Develops and maintains up-to-date documentation supporting assigned and related areas of responsibility.
 
May set up and test the working condition of audio-visual equipment used to support computer-aided instruction.
 
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in computer science, information systems, or a related field, AND one (1) year of experience in operating computers of the the type and size utilized by the District.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATION / SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Class C Driver's LicenseKNOWLEDGE OF:

Methods and techniques for the installation and configuration of PC hardware, operating systems, network connectivity, including the relationship and usage of various input and output component, and physical elements of the network including cabling and connections.

Basic principles and practices of computer platform and network operating systems as those used by the District and school sites.
 
Protocols and procedures for setting up new equipment, troubleshooting and performing routine maintenance.
 
Standard software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation,
graphics and database programs and instructional packages utilized by the District.
 
Communication skills to provide individual instruction and technical assistance on the use of PC-based software for business, education, internet, utility, and connectivity.
 
Oral and written communication skills that enables one to document technical procedures.
 
Telephone techniques and etiquette.
 
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
 
ABILITY TO:
Apply technical knowledge for the purpose of installing, configuring, and troubleshooting networked computer workstations, systems, and related components, such as cards and drivers.
 
Deliver one-on-one and small group training in the use of microcomputers and administrative and
instructional software.
 
Learn and apply rules and protocols in operating computer systems and networks
 
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
 
Comprehend and follow directions given verbally and in writing
 
Demonstrate mental acuity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position
 
Establish and maintain highly effective customer-focused working relationships with users, administrators, teachers, students, other District and site staff, vendors, parents and others encountered in the course of work. Meet schedules and time lines
