At Concordia Language Villages, Culinary Arts is an integral part of creating immersive cultural experiences for learners from around the world. Primary responsibilities include preparing and serving culturally authentic meals, maintaining a safe and organized kitchen environment, supporting immersive programming through food service, and collaborating with culinary team members to create exceptional experiences for villagers, staff, and guests.
Position Responsibilities
Support the mission and vision of Concordia College and Concordia Language Villages and demonstrate the competencies as defined for this position.

Food Production and Kitchen Operations
- Prepare, cook, and serve culturally authentic meals for summer programs, Village Weekend Programs, adult programs, special events, and staff meals.
- Maintain quality, safety, sanitation, and food handling standards in accordance with Minnesota Food Code requirements and Concordia Language Villages expectations.
- Prepare and support cooking activities for Village Weekend Programs.
- Maintain food inventory levels for assigned programs and events.
- Assist with menu planning and meal preparation coordination.

Anticipate kitchen production needs and support efficient food service operations.

Guest Service and Cultural Immersion
- Set, serve, and clear tables for special event groups and programs.
- Provide meal presentations and support immersive dining experiences.
- Use the target language whenever possible to help extend the cultural immersion experience.
- Maintain positive public relations for Concordia Language Villages and Concordia College.

Team Support and Leadership
- Provide guidance and training to Assistant Cooks and Kitchen Helpers.
- Help ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
- Support a collaborative and positive team environment.
- Assume a kitchen leadership role during summer programming as assigned.

Cleaning, Sanitation, and Maintenance
- Maintain organized, clean, and sanitary kitchen and dining areas.
- Wash dishes and assist with cleaning responsibilities.
- Support recycling and environmental sustainability practices within kitchen work areas.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks and report equipment repair needs.

Record Keeping and Communication
- Prepare task lists and communicate operational needs with Kitchen Coordinators and culinary team members.
- Track participant counts and complete food production records as needed.

Maintain clear communication regarding recipes, meal preparation, and operational needs.

Other Duties as assigned
- Preform other duties based on the needs of other departments within Concordia Language Villages and Concordia College as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 6 months to 1 year of related experience
- Must be able to read and write
- Able to work a varied schedule including early mornings, evenings and weekends as necessary.
Preferred:
- Quantity cooking experience
- Supervisory experience and/or demonstrated leadership abilities
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Experience working with diverse populations and communities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

The final salary will be determined based on factors such as education, experience, skills, certifications, and alignment with the position's requirements. Other considerations may include internal equity and market conditions.
