We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support our growing Finance and Billing Department.
Position Summary:
The Accounting Clerk will assist in a variety of general accounting functions, with a focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, client billing, and financial record-keeping. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and has a strong understanding of accounting principles and office administration in a professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the client invoice process in accordance with firm policies and fee arrangements
- Record and code accounts payable transactions and prepare payment batches
- Receive, verify, and enter invoices into the accounting system
- Schedule and make payments to vendors via various methods (checks, electronic transfers, etc.)
- Compare vendor statements with company records to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies
- Respond to vendor inquires, resolve billing discrepancies, and maintain positive relationships
- Maintain accurate files and up-to-date records of invoices, payments, and vendor information
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including reconciling accounts payable balances
- Maintain organized financial records and ensure accuracy in the general ledger
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly
- Assist with maintaining compliance documentation and financial audit preparation
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting regulations
- Assist with special projects, such as system conversions or process improvements
- Provide administrative support to the finance and billing team as needed
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 2 years of accounting or billing experience, ideally in a law firm or professional services setting
- Familiarity with billing software (e.g., Timeslips, Clio, or similar) and accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision
- Experience with elder care or trust & estates law firms a plus
