Job Overview
Our direct client IT organization is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support and manage enterprise database environments. The ideal candidate will be a strong technical leader with deep expertise in SQL Server, cloud platforms, and database performance optimization, working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support Microsoft SQL Server environments (on-prem & VM-based)
- Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimization strategies
- Plan and execute database installations, upgrades, migrations, and maintenance
- Configure SQL services including security, clustering, replication, and log shipping
- Provide Tier III production support and resolve complex database issues
- Collaborate with network, IIS, storage, and development teams
- Support DevOps tools (Ansible, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Maven, Nginx, etc.)
- Design and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Participate in capacity planning and scalability improvements
- Develop technical documentation, project plans, and best practices
- Lead database-related meetings and mentor junior team members
- Ensure compliance with security and risk management standards
Required Skills & Experience
- 6 years of SQL Server DBA experience
- Strong experience managing SQL databases (on-prem & cloud)
- Experience in multi-datacenter / distributed environments
Hands-on experience with:
- SQL Server configuration & administration
- Performance tuning & optimization
- Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery
- Experience with DevOps tools (Ansible, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Maven, Nginx, etc.)
- Experience working with Azure Cloud and Oracle databases
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cluster setup and high availability configurations
- Knowledge of Unix, Linux, and AIX environments
- Experience in database architecture planning and automation
- Ability to lead initiatives and drive database innovation
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong leadership and stakeholder communication skills
- Experience working with cross-agency database teams
- Background check may be required
