Location: Rockville, MD – Hybrid
Contract: 6 months, with possible extension
Pay Rate:

• Mid-Level: $55/hr C2C
• Senior-Level: $65/hr C2C

Job Overview

we are looking for a Software Engineer (Data) to join a highly collaborative technology initiative involving multiple teams, including a gateway team, with downstream impact to surveillance capabilities.

This position is not a traditional data-engineering role. The ideal candidate will be a strong software/application engineer who is comfortable working with large datasets, algorithms, AWS cloud services, distributed data technologies, and data-intensive applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software applications that process and analyze large volumes of data.
• Work with multiple engineering teams to understand data flows, integrations, and downstream system impacts.
• Develop efficient algorithms to identify patterns and relationships across large datasets.
• Build and maintain ETL and data-processing solutions using AWS and distributed technologies.
• Work with Apache Spark and AWS big-data services.
• Develop solutions using AWS Glue and Athena.
• Work with Presto and/or Trino for large-scale data querying and processing.
• Understand and troubleshoot data connections, integrations, and end-to-end data flows.
• Collaborate with engineering and business teams to develop scalable data-intensive solutions.
• Utilize Generative AI tools for software development and code generation.
• Contribute to solutions where GenAI is incorporated directly into the application/system, not only used as a developer productivity tool.

Required Skills

• Strong software/application engineering background
• Strong Java and/or Python development experience
• Strong AWS experience
• Hands-on experience with:
  • AWS Glue
  • AWS Athena
  • Apache Spark
  • ETL / data processing
  • Presto and/or Trino
  • AWS big-data services
• Strong understanding of data flows, integrations, and data connections
• Strong algorithmic and problem-solving skills
• Experience working with large datasets and distributed systems
• Experience with Generative AI / GenAI
• Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, multi-team environment

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a Software Engineer with strong data engineering capabilities, rather than someone focused exclusively on traditional ETL or data pipelines.

Candidates should be comfortable moving between:

Software Engineering → Algorithms → Data Processing → AWS → Distributed Systems → GenAI

Experience building data-intensive applications and working with large-scale distributed data systems will be highly valued.

Local Candidate Requirement

Candidates must be local to the Rockville, MD area and able to attend the required face-to-face interview on October 6, 2026.

Salary : $55 - $65
