What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual HR Generalist-Mandarin position at Comrise?
HR Generalist (Bilingual Mandarin/English)
Location: [NYC] — On-site
Salary: $80,000–$100,000 base benefits | H-1B sponsorship available
About the Company
A growing interior design and renovation firm serving residential and commercial clients across [region]. As project volume expands, we're building out our people operations to support both our office/design team and our field workforce.
About the Role
We're hiring an HR Generalist (3–5 years of experience) to own day-to-day HR for a mixed workforce of office/design staff and blue-collar field crews (carpenters, painters, installers, site workers). You'll be the bridge between the office and the field — from recruiting skilled tradespeople to resolving on-site employee issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-cycle recruiting for blue-collar/field roles: sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding carpenters, painters, installers, helpers, and site supervisors
- Partner with project managers to forecast field staffing needs across active renovation projects
- Own onboarding: I-9/E-Verify, new-hire paperwork, and orientations for both office and field staff
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for blue-collar employees — employee relations, grievances, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions
- Administer benefits enrollment, workers' compensation claims, and leave (FMLA and state leave laws)
- Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws (FLSA, OSHA recordkeeping, wage & hour)
- Coordinate payroll inputs (hours, overtime) with payroll provider
- Maintain HRIS and personnel files; produce headcount and turnover reports
- Support performance reviews, PIPs, and terminations with proper documentation
- Organize safety and skills training for field crews
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of HR generalist experience, ideally supporting blue-collar, construction, renovation, manufacturing, or field-services workforces
- Bilingual Mandarin and English (required) — daily work with Mandarin-speaking field staff
- Working knowledge of US employment law: FLSA, FMLA, workers' comp, I-9/E-Verify
- Experience with high-volume recruiting for skilled trades strongly preferred
- HRIS proficiency (e.g., ADP, BambooHR, Gusto); solid Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred; SHRM-CP/PHR a plus
- Hands-on, field-friendly style — comfortable visiting job sites, not just sitting at a desk
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $80,000–$100,000 (commensurate with experience)
- H-1B sponsorship available for qualified candidates
- Health insurance (medical/dental/vision)
- Daily lunch provided
- Commuter benefits / transit subsidy
- PTO and paid holidays
Salary : $80,000 - $100,000
