Position Summary:


Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Associate is responsible for supporting the daily maintenance and operational needs of the Computer History Museum across its facilities. This role ensures the upkeep of building systems, performs minor repairs, assists in warehouse operations, and provides logistical support for museum functions. The Maintenance Associate works closely with the Facilities team to maintain a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for staff, visitors, and stakeholders. The Maintenance Associate plays a key role in providing building operational support during regular business hours and for events.


An essential part of this role is working closely with the Facilities Team and collaborating across overlapping areas to ensure seamless coordination on projects and initiatives. The Maintenance Associate will collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and external partners, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals and the overall facilities strategy.


Responsibilities:


Facilities Maintenance & Operations


  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on building systems and equipment, including plumbing, electrical, and general facility upkeep.
  • Maintain and repair doors, locks, closures, handles, and other building hardware.
  • Keep power tools and equipment organized, clean, and in working condition.
  • Operate electric, gas, and manually powered tools, including saws, sprayers, and pressure washers.
  • Monitor facility activities to ensure the safety of guests and the protection of museum property.
  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner.
  • Execute short lead-time projects as assigned.


Building & Systems Support


  • Assist in HVAC scheduling, controls, and security system operations, including door scheduling and alarm systems.
  • Coordinate scheduling of facility resources, including janitorial, contractor, and security support as needed.
  • Maintain lighting and other essential facility components.
  • Support the setup, reconfiguration, and minor adjustments of workspaces and furniture as needed.


Warehouse & Offsite Storage Support


  • Assist in warehouse operations, including receiving and storing incoming shipments.
  • Operate a forklift and support general maintenance at the offsite collections' storage facility.


Collaboration & Facilities Team


  • Work closely with the Facilities Manager & Senior Director of Facilities & Workplace Operations to coordinate on building projects and ensure alignment with the overall facilities strategy. Collaborate with the Facilities Maintenance Contractors as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • At least 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related role.
  • High school diploma or GED certification required.
  • Dependable with basic knowledge of general maintenance and repair; forklift training and certification preferred.
  • Team player with a professional appearance and the ability to interact well with guests and staff.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Physically able to lift up to 75 pounds, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to read and understand English.
