Job Summary

The Assembly Mechanic is responsible for assembling, installing, sealing, rigging, inspecting, and completing precision structural and system components. This role requires working from drawings, specifications, and established procedures to ensure assemblies meet quality and engineering standards. The mechanic performs functional testing, troubleshooting, and supports continuous product flow in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assemble and install components including precision and structural assemblies per drawings and specifications.
2. Perform functional testing to verify fit, form, and function of assemblies and components.
3. Obtain technical information from prints, charts, sketches, and work instructions.
4. Use shop mathematics and precision measuring/test instruments to complete assignments.
5. Utilize tooling in the assembly of components into sub-assemblies or end items.
6. Verify work performed meets engineering specifications; identify discrepancies per procedure.
7. Perform minor machine maintenance including filter replacement, lubrication, and coolant checks.
8. Move products within the manufacturing area using shop equipment; complete required transactions.
9. Support continuous flow by training and assisting employees at all levels.
10. Assist in training of assembly personnel in installation and inspection techniques.
11. Cross-train in inspection and become SIA qualified.

Level B Responsibilities

1. Setup and operate CNC equipment with less than simultaneous 3-axis movement (e.g., drivematic processes).
2. Perform specialty skills in one or more areas:
3. Assembly/Installation of Structures
4. Sealer
5. Sub Assembly

Additional specialty skills may include:

1. Assembly/Installation of Doors
2. Integral Fuel Cell Sealing
3. Precision Bench Assembly
4. Pressure and Vacuum Testing

Required Qualifications

1. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, charts, and specifications
2. Proficiency in shop mathematics and use of precision measuring instruments
3. Experience with assembly, installation, sealing, and inspection of structural components
4. Ability to perform routine machine maintenance and support continuous product flow
5. Willingness to cross-train and become SIA qualified

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience with CNC fastening equipment and drivematic processes
2. Proficiency in specialty skills such as fuel cell sealing, precision bench assembly, or vacuum testing

Certifications (if any)

1. SIA qualification preferred
