What are we looking for in a Controller?
The Controller oversees the daily operations of the Finance department and is tasked with identifying & implementing best practices to optimize efficiency. This position is responsible for supervising Finance staff, maintaining the general ledger, and reporting financial data to leadership. The Controller works at the direction of the Chief Financial Officer to ensure the day-to-day effectiveness of the department. This position will require strong interpersonal skills, the ability to balance multiple projects at once, and a talent for identifying and providing solutions for areas for improvement.
Controller duties may include:
- Provides direction, supervision, coaching, training and regular performance feedback to build employee skills and support progress toward goals.
- Effectively and legally interviews applicants and makes appropriate staff selections.
- Creates training and development plans to support new employees to be successful.
- Completes performance evaluations in a timely and thorough manner.
- Assists with the development of the team budget and monitors budget throughout the year.
- Monitors program plan adherence to ensure quality service delivery.
- Collaborates with the Human Resources Department on hiring, retention and progressive discipline issues.
- Communicates relevant matters to direct reports timely and effectively.
- Supervises and supports the Revenue Cycle Manager, which will include but is not limited to: reviewing and ensuring the timely interface of the electronic health record (EHR) to general ledger (GL), assisting in maintaining the mapping for insurance coverages and programs to proper GL codes and cost centers, be able to assist with billing and invoicing projects, assist with reporting and revenue cycle dashboards, reviewing aging and assist with the calculation of the allowance for doubtful accounts on a monthly basis, assists with reviewing and tracking timely collection of outstanding balances, and other duties as assigned. CFO, Controller and Revenue Cycle Manager will interface together in regards to annual analysis of the charge master.
- Supervises and supports the Grants and Contracts Manager, which will include but is not limited to: reviewing and ensuring the timely submission of grant invoices on a monthly basis, assist with ensuring the proper lifecycle of new grants and contracts is followed internally, assist with set-up of billing processes and controls for new grants (including any report creation), review accuracy of invoices, assist with interfacing with grantors as needed, and other duties as assigned.
- Supervises and supports the Accounting Manager, which will include but is not limited to: reviewing and ensuring the timely reconciliation of cash and investment accounts, reviewing and ensuring timely payments of outstanding debt, reviewing and ensuring timely remittances on payables and making sure the weekly check run is performed, assisting with interface between Finance and Purchasing (Facilities department), reviewing quarterly reporting, ensure accurate and timely payroll, support the Protective Payee function in Yakima and Walla Walla counties, and other duties as assigned.
- Analyzes financial information to maintain the integrity of the general ledger. Conducts analytical reviews of the work papers, spreadsheets and reports. Assists CFO with monthly analysis necessary to identify trends and provide key information for management, C-suite, and governance.
- Performs duties and responsibilities necessary that relate to maintaining the general ledger, month end and year end closings. Ensures accurate and timely monthly and annual closing to support management deadlines. Ensures timely completion and review of subsidiary ledgers, clearing accounts, and intercompany transactions. Identifies and implements process and control improvements as needed.
- Devises and implements systems for general accounting. Assists CFO to analyze financial information and other reports to summarize current and projected agency financial position. Maintains the chart of accounts, an orderly accounting filing system and a system of controls over all accounting transactions.
- Serves as a liaison for all financial audits. Develops, documents and implements an audit system that assists in eliminating errors in accounting.
- Interfaces as needed with Planning and Budget Manager to assist in providing information required for the budget process and on an ongoing monthly basis interact to determine and coordinate the need for any potential reclassifications between cost centers via the budget to actual review process.
- Assists CFO with monitoring debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
- Prepares reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis as required by regulatory agencies for all corporations to ensure compliance with current accounting and regulatory requirements.
- Assists CFO with providing management, C-suite, and governance with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of services. Recommends benchmarks against which to measure the performance of agency operations. Calculates variances from the budget and reports significant issues as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- Three years of related finance experience within the healthcare industry
- Two years of supervisory experience

Salary : $103,000 - $128,750
