What are we looking for in an Authorization & Referral Specialist?
The Authorization Specialist provides full-spectrum coordination of client referrals and obtainment, entry and tracking of authorizations in the electronic health record.
Authorization Specialist duties may include:
- Manages internal and external referrals for the organization.
- Works with clients to arrange and schedule referral appointments, include providing clients with referrals to other care providers, managing incoming client referrals, or both. Schedules appointments, sends reminders, and provides clients and referring provider with information about referral appointments.
- Processes authorizations and submits clinical supporting documentation to insurance carriers in a timely manner.
- Understands funding source requirements (i.e., Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance).
- Monitors and reports issues with client authorizations and/or referrals. Takes necessary actions to address problems.
- Collaborate and communicates with other divisions to assist in obtaining Authorization/Referrals.
- Works on a variety of special projects and assumes other duties as assigned by the Team Leader or designee.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of of related experience working in an office setting with computer systems.
