Overview:
Comprehensive Fire Technologies (ComTec) is an employee-owned, industry-leading fire protection contractor that provides design, installation, and maintenance services for specialty fire protection and building fire alarm systems to customers nationally and, in some instances, globally. Our organization is hiring a full-time fire protection designer to join our team.
Our Ideal Candidate:
The candidate must be proficient in AutoCAD, have a keen eye for detail, and enjoy working with colleagues on unique projects. The position requires a successful candidate to create and revise construction drawings and documents as necessary.
He or she will assist the design and project teams by providing guidance, answering questions, reviewing drawings, and calculations for quality and accuracy. The engineer will need to provide technical assistance to the sales and project management teams upon request. Experience with fire protection systems is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of common fire, electrical, and building codes/standards is preferred but not essential. ComTec provides industry training and certifications for professional development and personal growth.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Design and Layout systems using AutoCAD and associated software.
- Follow contract specifications.
- Utilize knowledge of project specifications to create construction drawings.
- Review drawings for accuracy and compliance with local and national codes/standards.
- Ensure compliance with the project's local and national codes or standards.
- Conduct site surveys to assess field conditions.
- Acquire and maintain industry certifications and licenses.
- Provide technical assistance to colleagues when requested.
- Collaborate with project managers, sales team, engineers, and end users to develop and revise contract documents.
- Participate in industry training and special events.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Maintain software licenses required for system design.
Requirements
- Proficient in AutoCAD with formal AutoCAD training or certification preferred.
- Motivated and can complete work in a timely fashion
- Ability to work independently when needed.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience in designing fire alarms or special-hazard fire protection systems is preferred but not required.
Preferred Skills/Certification:
Preference will be shown to candidates with experience in:
- FireCAD Fire Alarm Design Software
- Battery and voltage drop calculations.
- Clean agent flow calculations.
- Carbon dioxide flow calculations.
- Vesda, Modulaser, or Wagner flow calculations.
- Building Information Modeling (BIM)
- NICET Level II – Fire Alarm Systems
- NICET Level II – Special Hazard Systems
