Job Summary

The position of an experienced ID/OD Grind Machinist Technician is designed for a knowledgeable and skilled individual in multiple fields of machining. This position is responsible for the ID/OD Grind Machining of turbine engine components to achieve specified dimensions. Our customers are worldwide leaders in the fields of aerospace and marine industry sectors of turbine engine power. The final product must conform to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.

This position is a part of a large Machining Department comprised of CNC VTL, Mill, Grind and Manual Mill and VTL, Tool & Die, R&D, CNC Programming and dedicated machinist trainers. The successful candidate will work alongside a team of experienced and professional machinists that will allow for continuous interaction of techniques, skill knowledge, print reading and interpretation of technical drawings.

The position performs its primary functions in a climate-controlled and modern state-of-the-art facility.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Set-up and operate horizontal and vertical grind equipment to perform grinding operations on a wide variety of turbine engine components.
  • Select, install, and dress wheels and complete all changes in set-ups. May include the use of various work holding devices and measuring devices for correct alignment and concentricity.
  • Operate machines to remove material to achieve required dimensions prior to the application of coatings, after application of finish coatings, or to establish part features.
  • The loading and unloading parts are a part of the set-up.
  • Follow both written and verbal work instructions, use approved gages and tools to inspect parts to determine required material removal.
  • Use precision measuring devices to inspect work.
  • Accurately record findings on provided work instructions and documentation.
  • From time-to-time, participate in the training process and offer expertise in the OJT program for various levels of machinist technicians.

Required Qualifications

  • Five plus years’ experience operating vertical and horizontal Grind, Hone and Lathe equipment, CNC or manual equipment such as, but not limited to: Campbell, Springfield, Frauenthal, Cincinnati, Sunnen.
  • Job shop type environment.
  • MTO – made to order environment.
  • First article experience.
  • Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving on:
  • Machine setups.
  • CNC programming. (feed and speeds)
  • Tooling/Grinding wheels.
  • Fixturing.
  • Firm understanding of:
  • GD&T
  • Critical dimensioning.
  • Relationship between dimensions.
  • Demonstrate CNC control abilities on grind equipment to include:
  • Editing speeds.
  • Feeds.
  • Tool offsets.
  • Fixture offsets.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of:
  • Rework.
  • Setting zero work offset with grinding wheel.
  • Understanding grinding wheel differences.
  • Ability to help develop and troubleshoot grinding process. (Engineering participation)

Other Qualifications

  • Familiar with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
  • Technical drawing and documentation reading ability.
  • General skills such as use of hand-held power tools, files, assembly, and disassembly.
  • Read, write, speak, understand English, and be able to communicate with other employees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  • Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
