Schedule

Monday through Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM

May have some days that are 7:45AM – 4:30PM

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience as Ophthalmic Technician
  • COA Certification is a plus
  • Would consider Medical Assistant who worked in Ophthalmology
  • Must be coming from a medical background
  • High school diploma

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in a friendly but professional manner confirming key identifiers
  • Bring patients into room and perform and document the following tests: distance visual acuity, motilities, confrontation visual field, pupillary assessment, tonometry, blood pressure, external assessment, and dilate patient’s eyes for exam
  • Obtain and document chief complaint, history and physical, and record all medications and past surgeries
  • Properly document all interactions during patient visit in patient’s medical record
  • Assess reason for patients’ visit document that in the patient’s record and then escort patient to the next stage of their visit
  • According to patient’s complaint and doctors’ previous instructions, performs testing as needed
  • If unsure if a test needs to be done, check with head tech or physician prior to testing
  • Document testing and results in patient chart according to protocol
  • Perform OCT, Fundus Photography, Fluorescein Angiography as needed
  • Handle scribing duties
  • Responsible for documenting all aspects of the patient’s visit for the day
  • Manage patient flow for the day, direct the doctor what patient to see next
  • Triage patient phone calls and determine if a patient needs to be seen during the day
  • Set up procedures and laser during the day and assist doctor when needed
  • Responsible for documenting proper coding for each patient visit
  • Check notifications at a regular interval
  • Edit and process letters
  • Set up sterile and aseptic procedures according to doctor’s direction
  • Maintain clean and neat workspace
  • Sterilize equipment as needed
  • Comply to universal precautions and OSHA standards for personal protective equipment
  • Assist physician while performing procedures
  • Triage and/or return patient phone calls
  • Call in patient prescription as needed
  • Takes call with physicians on a rotating basis and triages patients for doctor
  • Comes into office after hours or on weekend when needed to see emergency patients as needed when on call
  • Send in patient prescriptions with e-scribing program as directed by physician
  • Abide by all HIPPA and OSHA regulations
  • Ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe working environment
  • Check supplies routinely for shortages and add to order list
  • Maintain patient confidentiality agreement
  • Maintain professional conduct both in speech and grooming
  • Work under supervision of head tech
  • Assist in OR is possible
  • Utilizes proper aseptic and sterile techniques when needed
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patient, physicians, and coworkers
  • Demonstrates flexibility in job assignment and takes initiative to complete tasks
  • Is energetic and empathetic with patients
  • Cooperates with supervisory staff and physicians
