Position Overview
CPS Construction is seeking an experienced Estimator with a minimum of 3 years in commercial construction estimating. This role is critical to our preconstruction process and overall project success.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment—especially on bid days. You’ll work closely with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and leadership to deliver accurate, competitive, and comprehensive project estimates.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and documentation to develop complete estimates
- Develop and distribute bid packages to subcontractors and vendors
- Clearly define scope of work and level subcontractor proposals to ensure full coverage
- Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality
- Maintain and update unit cost databases and estimating tools
- Negotiate, prepare, and execute subcontractor and vendor agreements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, clients, architects, and engineers
- Participate in preconstruction and project turnover meetings
- Support project managers and field teams in maintaining budgets and schedules
- Evaluate subcontractor performance and maintain a qualified bidders list
- Review contracts and documents to identify risk and ensure scope clarity
- Assist in identifying and pursuing new project opportunities
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of commercial construction estimating experience
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing
- Proven ability to meet strict deadlines and perform under pressure
- Excellent negotiation and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational ability
- Proficient with estimating software, spreadsheets, and construction management technology
- Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and resourceful
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and work ethic
