Organization: Compass Family Services is a 100 year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.
Compensation: $33 per hour
Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, primarily during standard business hours

Position Description:
The Accounts Payable Specialist (AP Specialist 1) plays a key role in ensuring that Compass’ Emergency Rental Assistance Program operates efficiently and correctly. The position will support the Accounts Payable function of the department, including processing payments checks to cover deposits, first and last month rent, and application fees, and supporting program staff with any eviction-prevention related questions. The position will also support the Accounts Payable Manager in AP-related tasks.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manage the payment process, including working with Case Managers and Program Directors to ensure proper documentation of property ownership and processing the correct payment amount.
- Process move-in, security deposits, back rent and other related client assistance checks three times a week or as needed.
- Maintain and update vendor database in accounting software and provide vendor ID to programs; keep records of W-9 forms
- Ensure supportive backup is accurate and complete for all disbursements.
- Coordinate with managers on disbursement timelines, client related check requests, check status, changes in landlord information, and other related questions.
- Process quarterly payments to collaborating agencies of the Eviction Prevention pilot program.
- Maintain and update tracking of pilot disbursements.
- Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Initiatives in preparing client information of any pilot-related report.
- Guarantee the data in Dataverse is updated on a regular basis
- Support creating vendor IDs in MIP
- Update the payments process through Concur in the MIP accounting system
- Assist with audit preparation.
- Assist finance team with special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years general accounting education or equivalent experience in A/P.
- Firm grasp of accounting principles
- Thorough understanding of Excel
- Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and thorough
- Ability to problem solve, work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a friendly and professional manner

Compensation and Benefits:
- $33 per hour, equivalent to $64,350 annually based on a 37.5 hour workweek
- Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, increasing to 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.
- Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
- Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-6.
- Membership in OPEIU/Local 29 union

- Office location: 37 Grove St., less than a block from Civic Center BART/MUNI station
- This is primarily an on-site role, with the option to work remotely 1-2 days per week after the first three months
