Pay Rate: $62–$68/hr
Contract: 1-year base with extensions up to 5 years

About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for a Project Manager 2 / Superintendent 3 to lead construction projects in support of the Laboratory's missions. This role leads projects valued at $500K or less and provides oversight to Superintendent 2 personnel as necessary.
The Project Manager 2 / Superintendent 3 may initiate the investigation of abnormal events, incidents, and/or accidents to identify root cause and assist in implementing corrective actions. The role may serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) responsible for planning, budgeting, managing, and controlling cost and schedule performance for a project or subproject, and may serve as a point of contact for project controls including scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance. The position may also present project management performance plans, status updates, trends, or issues to federal sponsors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage construction projects valued at $500K or less, providing oversight to Superintendent 2 personnel as necessary.
- Serve as Control Account Manager (CAM), planning, budgeting, managing, and controlling cost and schedule performance, and acting as the point of contact for project controls (scope, schedule, budget, technical performance).
- Ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work; perform variance analysis, determine cause and effect of cost or schedule variance, and define achievable corrective action plans.
- Initiate investigation of abnormal events, incidents, or accidents to identify root cause and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Lead constructability reviews of the design process and assess potential impacts to construction cost and schedule.
- Identify project risks, develop risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommend risk acceptance/avoidance across all aspects of a project.
- Organize, direct, and control a team of workers including work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation.
- Provide personal leadership, direction, and technical advice on health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Establish and maintain strong customer engagement; interface with program, project, and line management to develop clear, executable action plans.
- Report project status to senior management, project stakeholders, and regulatory inquiries through clear oral and written communication.
- Utilize a computerized work management system to maintain and track job activities, including coordinating materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers.
- May be required to present project management performance plans, status updates, trends, or issues to federal sponsors.
Required Education & Experience
Position typically requires a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or specialized courses in project management, and ten (10) years of work experience (5 years in at least one of the following functions: engineering, procurement, and construction) leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above, or any combination of education and experience.

- Nuclear experience is required.
- Advanced experience managing construction projects, including proactively managing scope, schedule, and budget using Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
- Advanced knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades, renovations, and Decontamination & Decommissioning (D&D).
- Extensive knowledge of facility maintenance and/or construction management, including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management, work control, and facility control systems.
- Extensive knowledge of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades.
- Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including reporting to senior management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Security Clearance
The ability to obtain a DOE “Q” clearance is required. Q-cleared candidates are preferred. Candidates must be willing to make a long-term commitment to obtaining and maintaining the clearance, and must be able to obtain A-Level access. Work will be performed in a secure area and may involve confidential information.

Contract Details
Duration: 1-year base assignment with the possibility of extension up to 5 years. Extension and conversion are possible but not guaranteed.
Work Schedule: 4/10 schedule with anticipated overtime. A flexible schedule — days, nights, and weekends — may be required.
Work Location: On-site, 100%, at Technical Area 55 (TA-55).
Physical Requirements: The role includes physical requirements such as lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods. Per diem and relocation assistance are available.
