Mechanical Engineering Lead
COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for a Mechanical Engineering position in Greenville, SC.

In this lead role, you will provide technical leadership, engineering oversight, and project execution support for complex mechanical systems and equipment used in large-scale EPC projects. Your expertise will directly contribute to the successful delivery of mission-critical projects supporting the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Under general supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer, serve as an Area Lead providing guidance and supervision to engineers and designers
- Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of advanced complexity in accordance with project requirements
- Develop and review specifications and design criteria
- Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment, and systems; and solve technical problems of advanced complexity
- Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients
- Execute work in compliance with the Project Quality Plan and procedures
- Execute work in accordance with approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines
- Develop and review estimates, schedules, and progress reports including effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
- Establish, control, and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
- Provide technical support associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting activities including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor submittals
- Provide technical support associated with construction administration including responses to construction requests-for-information and field changes
- Prepare and review calculations and specifications for equipment in support of Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development
- Establish equipment requirements and prepare equipment data sheets for mechanical equipment including heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, and related systems
- Evaluate dimensions, equipment connections, pressure profiles, heat transfer rates, and equipment performance
- Provide equipment sizing and application support to project development or process teams
- Participate in material selection for equipment
- Develop and revise equipment lists, narrative specifications, equipment standards, equipment arrangement, and outline drawings
- Participate in supplier and contractor bid clarification, negotiation, and award meetings
- Review and comment on supplier and contractor drawings and technical data
- Represent Mechanical Engineering during model reviews and monitor design progress
- Provide consultation during fabrication and witness testing of equipment
- Provide consultation and on-site assistance for installation, commissioning, and startup activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
- Minimum of ten (10) years of work-related engineering experience
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards, including Department of Energy orders
- Advanced knowledge of discipline-specific codes and standards
- Significant experience providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services on large industrial projects
- Proficiency executing large EPC projects utilizing engineering analysis, 3D modeling, and 2D computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools in a multi-discipline environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading and working with Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Demonstrated design experience in mechanical systems and equipment design and specification
- Demonstrated proficiency with 2D CADD applications such as Bentley MicroStation and Autodesk AutoCAD
- Ability to communicate effectively with project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
- Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes, and guidelines
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
- Intermediate computer skills including proficiency in word processing, email, spreadsheets, and presentation software
Desired Skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience designing systems, structures, and components for nuclear facilities under ASME NQA-1 requirements
- Demonstrated experience managing and leading large projects
- Proficiency with project setup, development of control-level schedules, progress reporting, and project close-out
- Practical field experience
- Experience supporting EPC projects for:
- U.S. Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government agencies
- Nuclear facilities operating under nuclear quality assurance programs
- Manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries
- Intermediate knowledge of:
- Instrumentation and Control (I&C) specifications for equipment
- Finite element analysis
- Mechanical equipment design through all project phases including conceptual design, construction, and commissioning
- Rotating equipment, pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, packaged equipment, metallurgy, and welding
- Advanced knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required
- Minimum of ten (10) years of related engineering experience required
- Relevant nuclear, federal, or large industrial EPC project experience strongly preferred
